As someone who works around a bellwether part of the economy, there is no doubt in my mind that it is currently going through the gears.
I am uncomfortable with much about the Tories, not least in terms of social policy, but I believe they generally run the economy better than Labour.
Many people who were questioning Osborne's competence and ability to grow the economy at all, have now conspicuously moved the goalposts, much like Blair did on Iraq.
Osborne has played the hand he was dealt superbly. Not in the national interest, but in the interests of self-preservation, and those who cannot appreciate that fact, whatever their personal views on the Chancellor and his politics, seem, to me, to be incapable of any form of objective thought on the matter.
He's gambled and won imo.
