Ref Watch City Games - 2023/24

Godfrey (twice) was down for about 5 minutes on his own second half, it was clearly a concussion, that's not "play acting". He threw up twice at least, once all over one of the physio's bag, and when eventually subbed he walked round the touchline like he was drunk, personally I hope he's OK.

Also after we went in front, we were the masters of wasting time, but more clever about it, we took about a minute to take a free kick, initially the ball went off the pitch, we made no attempt to get it back, when we did it went through about 4 different players, before it went to the one that took it.

Every time play was stopped he made a point of showing he'd stopped his watch.

Was he a good referee ? No, pretty awful in fact, but his time management was not the problem for me.
Fair enough about Godfrey but everytime a tackle was made or a interception was made the Everton player would stay down, after we scored the first it didn't happen again. So we will have to agree to disagree.

Plus, how can a referee judge someone is play acting ? Can you imagine the shit they'd get if they ignored a player and it turned out to be a serious injury. Everton should be criticised for that not the ref.
didnt this happen with Jesus a few years ago at Palace when the ref told him to get up and play on when he had in fact done his knee ligaments?

Would love to hear the audio for that review.

Oh wait we don't play in fucking red

There wouldn’t be any audio. Well possibly between the VAR and AVAR there might have been.

But when the VAR checks something that the referee has potentially missed and decides no action is needed, it is what they call a ‘silent review’ and the referee isn’t even made aware of it.

The issue for me around time wasting is not that you lose the time (particularly this season as time seems to get added on more or less correctly), it’s the disruption to the flow of the game that gets me.

Refs need to book more players rather than just pointing to their watch to let us know they know what’s going on.

Might help if teams and fans being disadvantaged were a bit more ruthless.

Don’t kick the ball out for any opposition “injury”.

Captain goes to referee and starts counting for every stoppage making hand signals so the crowd can join in.

Have a separate clock in the stadium showing ball in play minutes.
