Ref Watch

Me and my mate was talking about this morning and the foul on Phil Foden by James Milner and we came to the conclusion that neither of us had ever seen VAR being used at klanfield. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen lines drawn across the pitch to check potential offsides and I can’t recollect if the ref has ever gone over to the TV on the touch line to check a decision.

Hackett will have singed the same NDA as the rest of the cabal. I'm pretty sure he will be under strict instructions not to say anything which may paint the PiGMOL in a poor light.

Hackett is regularly critical of PGMOL, and has been for years. It's 11 years since he was in charge of refs (when Riley took over), and pretty much loathes Riley.

You have to take everything Hackett says with the proviso that he was sacked basically for Riley. Went to a talk he did a few years ago and all he did was slag off every ref whilst saying how much better it was in his day. I have no doubt he is bitter about the way he was removed

Yes, I was aware of the anger; Hackett doesn't try hiding it.

Sorry Trevor but that’s no true, he regularly slaughters PGMOL and particularly Riley. I think he was completely wrong about Tierney though who had a nightmare.

Cast your mind back to 2016 and Manchester City start the season away at Stoke City, In line with a new PIGMOL directive Mike Dean clamps down on contact in the box and awards Stoke a penalty out of nothing. Apparently Shawcross couldn`t break free from Sterling in the box. But the pundits all said it`s what is now expected under the new rules in the box. The following weekend it`s ops normal as the physical element returned in the box.

Now back to the current season. We open the season with a game at Spuds where under a new PIGMOL directive Alty Fan Taylor endeavours to keep the game flowing while allowing Tanganga to perform acts of unpunished violence, This successful aggressive approach earns Tanganga the MOTM and the pundits plaudits However, once again normal refereeing services resume in the following weeks as Tanganga sees red when being sent off at Palace whilst taking the same approach to wild tackling.

So we all play under the same rules PIGMOL, yeh right?
We were awarded a similar penalty first in that Stoke game, but yes, it all seemed to fade away soon after.

Not quite how I remember it. Ours was a definite shirt tug, theirs was Sterling putting his hand, palm up, on Shawcross's chest whilst they were jostling for position. Absolute non penalty.

I wonder how many Liverpool fans would be calling a foul by Henderson if it was in the penalty box. Non I would guess, but now they are using it to save Milner you would think Henderson booted bernardo into row z for him to get up and Milner to then foul him.
Gallagher was good to bring up that its still a yellow by Milner even if its given for a foul by Henderson. Course scousers ignore that and make out that Henderson foul saves Milner.

I really dont get how Gallagher on ref watch has said no foul because Foden trips himself up. Its clear as day that Milner makes contact on Foden first so pen. I have seen Gallagher defend decisions given by the ref, saying "the way he reffed the game it wasn't a foul". He couldnt do that this time as Cancelo got a yellow for even less contact but pretty much the same type of foul.
The situation in refereeing is simple. The rules and referees cannot be wrong.

Football relies on the spectators belief that the rules work. A referee admitting the rules are fallible means the refs are fallible. Meaning that the game is bent, or can be manipulated.

We ALL know this happens, and refs can be bought, rules can be ignored. But refs will never come out and say directly that the game is "managed". It will explode the myth.

Daft post mate.
It’s impossible for the ref to review incidents at klanfield on the pitch side monitor.
It’s been stolen.

My point, though, is that both would not have been given the year before, and most don't now. For worse instances. I certainly didn't shout 'penalty' and was surprised to see it given. Think Dean was making a point!

As soon as the ball is in the oppo area and hits something (it could be one of our players!) I'm screaming penalty!

It's also one of only two grounds in the premier league who don't have a big screen to replay incidents or inform fans that there is a VAR check and what for. The other team also wear red and reside in theh North West close to Manchester.

That’s right but have we ever seen lines drawn on the TV and I have never seen a refereeing decision go to the monitor.

I thought he was great today. Let the game flow.
Is that sarcasm ?

It was one of the most one eyed official performances I have seen from where I sat. He "let the game flow" virtually every time we were fouled, and stopped it every time someone breathed near one of their players, he's attrocious and bent, not a great combination.

I wasn’t sure who the ref was and asked one of my friends across the aisle. Without hesitation his response came back: Mr Magoo!
That, alongside the liner on the CB side, was one of the worst performances from a ref I have ever had the bad fortune to witness!
He ignored everything when they kicked and pulled at our team’s clothing. It’s a wonder we didn’t have at least 9 semi naked footballers on the pitch! The way he allowed their goalkeeper to waste time was sinful.
Those are the first things that come to mind. There were others!

The lino.

I'm in the upper tier of the South Stand and a ball went over the back line so far I could see grass between it and the ball, now from my angle that has to be a foot over the line, the idiot in charge couldn't see, so asked the lino, who I saw put a thumb up to say it stayed in play, would have been a corner to us. Now he is on the opposite side of the pitch and has to look through the goal to see, all our near by players claimed the corner.

They decided as soon as we scored early they were giving us nothing, and continued it for 80+ minutes.
