Ref Watch

Wouldn’t be surprised to see a similar incident in tonight’s or the next round of games and lo and behold the goal stands ( which it should have anyhow) or a handball in box and no pen awarded like last night which shouldn’t have been given .

I think it is farcical that it was ruled intentional (I also think the decision to award us the penalty was ridiculous).

I was just trying to correct some misunderstandings of the current rules that were circulating in the match thread. Some were saying unintentional handballs in the build up could lead to goals being disallowed, which is incorrect.

I think it may be to do with the player's "silhouette". Remember the United game in the EL where Martinez (was it?) blocked a shot while sliding and it bounced off his leg on to his arm. His arm wasn't in a particularly unnatural position but it made his "silhouette" bigger, so it was a penalty.

Mahrez's arm wasn't in an unnatural position either, but it was slightly away from his body (whenever isn't it?), so just maybe that was the reason. We discussed at the time that the UEFA's interpretations for handball are different, and we got screwed this time.

Only suggesting this because refs normally have reasons for their decisions that we don't understand. We are so badly informed by commentators, press and pundits that we have no idea. Until refs tell us why they make their decisions, it will be a mystery. It's ridiculous really.

He should never be allowed to ref that fixture again. Crumbles under the stick he got from the murderers as being pro City when he isn't at all.

Thought VAR wasn’t there to re-referee the game, Taylor was close to the challenge looking right at it and played on like he did all day
Yeah, there was another moment where a foul wasn't given against Liverpool, we started running forward with the ball, and I thought "well, you might as well kick the ball out now, because if we score, they'll just go back to that one and disallow it."

I also get irritated by the theatre of the ref going over to the monitor. All of this bullshit smoke and mirrors to pretend that the referee isn't basically being told what decision to make.

Thought he would have let the goal stand, as he had let the game flow, but the var team had other ideas. No point letting fouls go until we score, and then the var intervene. Not on the ref that.
