Ref Watch

Different instructions?

You mean the different instructions he was working to in the second half, or between VAR and non-VAR?

Not everything has to be an argument. Whether you like it or not, it is an undeniable fact that linesman are instructed to use the delayed flag for offsides in games where there is a VAR. In games with no VAR, that isn’t the case.

How well they used it on Saturday is a different subject altogether.

Where is that rule published?

In rugby if a player is in front of the ball when a colleague kicks it he has to wait until that player runs in front of him before he is onside or if the opposing player runs forward 10 metres I think. How about this ruling in football that if a player is offside as Rashford was he can only become involved in the play when a team mate who is onside runs past him.

Thread is becoming schizophrenic.

The simple answer to all these issue is to make it compulsory for every decision to be explained live by the referee and/or VAR if it goes to them.

Which laws are they using. How have they interpreted any of the “subjective” points. How have they have reached their conclusion.

That way, there’s no confusion, none of this “did he see this bit? Did he see that bit?”, nothing to hide behind.

The fact they don’t/won’t do this can only mean one thing.

Why hide the decision making process if you have nothing to hide?
