Ref Watch

Id just like to remind some of you about tonight's embarrassment dressed up as a referee.
Stuart Atwell was fast tracked by Riley and his cohorts as the 'next big thing'. After numerous major blunders and several performances a la this evenings shambles, he was rapidly 'excused' and then demoted at seasons end.
After covering himself in glory in the lower leagues,he was re-promoted, virtually unheard of in refereeing, principally because if the 'next big thing' wasn't good enough, then Riley and Ellery couldn't tell their arse from their elbow.
In short he has a less than glorious past, supported by the 'great and not so good', has underperformed at prem level through two spells but is still PAID to submit a performance like tonight. I am absolutely embarrassed to have been a referee when that means I am guilty of association with people who can create a situation like this in one of the foremost leagues in the world.
Thank goodness it wasn't an important result.

Interesting to hear from someone who has ref experience. I've been going to football matches for decades and criticism of refs has always been there. Check any fans forum and you'll find the same accusations of incompetence, corruption, the agenda etc. The only thing that has changed imo is that refereeing decisions are now dissected and analysed to a greater degree because there is so much money riding on them. A bad decision can cost a club tens of millions.

I'm usually willing to cut refs some slack, but even I was astonished at the level of competence of Atwell's performance last night. This was compounded by the shifting sands opinions of Peter Walton who, in my experience, has never disagreed with a refereeing decision. The only time he'll say the ref is wrong is when VAR says so. Which means he's still not disagreeing. He's not strong enough for this job. Clearly refs and ex-refs will mix socially and Walton won't want to be seen as the class sneak. But he's happy enough to take the money which is why I have no time for him as a person or his opinions. (Maybe no ex-ref is strong enough which makes me wonder whether the Walton role should be scrapped).

Last night was classic. He said the rule in the Cancelo incident was whether the attacking player had control of the ball. If I remember correctly the commentator doubted if he had control. Then, when the red card was upheld, he changed the narrative to "potentially " had control. If that's the rule he should have said so right away. Which demonstrates a lack of expert knowledge and thus his deficiency in his role.

And so it will go on.

And you have to wonder why Riley doesn't want this to happen.
Every other major sport which uses this technology(Cricket, Both codes of Rugby, NFL etc) you can clearly hear the ref/umpire talking to the people "upstairs" and you can hear the decision they have made and more importantly why they made it.

As soon as VAR replays were stopped from being broadcast live to the TV audience this season I just knew The Premier League were incompetent using the technology

Incompetent you say?
I think you spell that word b-e-n-t

Just had this sent to me

"Arguably the UK most notorious sports better is Tony Bloom who is the owner of Starlizard, a company who describes its self as a betting consultancy. Based in Camden Town Starlizard is the sole adviser for Blooms betting syndicate who primarily use the football betting markets. They generally bet in excess of £1M a week on football markets"

Tony Bloom owns Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club

Yeah, I knew there was something about their owner that was a bit dodgy.
I know we have had a brilliant season but honestly, I feel this stuff is sucking the joy out of the game. Too many instances like last night. Liverpool gifted a lifeline into the CL next year. When will someone call the cheating out?

Ive been watching football for 47 years and i have never subscribed to bent officiating.Believe me i have seen some awful officiating. I also like betting on football but after what i witnessed last night i am coming round to the idea that something was going on betting wise.It was so wrong.
Never a red
Gundogan foul?
Brightons 3rd did they look at off side.
Foul on Jesus
Foul on Foden
Bank accounts need checking id start with Atwell and Mosses families and associates.

It's no coincidence that Buzzer has not been seen on TV as a pundit since he scolded the panel for constantly showing Rooneys' bicycle kick in the derby whereby he shinned it in

I think there's a strong case to have these VAR officials explain the decision to the tv audience as they are reviewing it, as occurs in other sports.

Imagine fatso Moss having to justify the Cancelo sending off, or the Gundo incident, to the tv audience. He wouldn't be able to do it.
Well Walton did without any shame whatsoever

Piss poor officiating on the field and off and highly selective replays of contentious incidents plus commentators and pundits as usual seeing what they want to see and say. Something is rotten in the state of Football.
Once again the Man of Mystery the Match Commander plays his shadowy role in a number of matches being played concurrently in whole or in part. But so little mention is made of him it makes you wonder why. I was beginning to think he was the bogey man l dreamt up.
Another Blue mentioned this secretive role onlyyesterday which made me pleased that it is not my imagination but that Blue mentioned the MC is not qualified in the Laws of the Game. But this adds to the mystery. From what l can gather about this secretive position there are three people used as MCs.
Firstly there is a TV technician type with no football related qualifications.
Secondly there is Neil Swarbrick former PL ref with no tv technical qualifications.
Lastly there is a former linesman a watered down Swarbrick type.
Then come a host of questions.
Who thought they were necessary?
Who appointed them?
Who pays them?
How are they appointed to specific matches given their very different experience?
Do they have over control as the strange name suggests?
Do they all work together or a match each so one match could be 'commander's a boffin and another by an ex liner?
Why is it all so bloody secretive?
Why do all the pundits turn a blind eye to it?

Lots more questions but perhaps one could explain the whole thing:
Is there any connection to the betting industry?

I'd start with Tony Bloom and how much his betting syndicate made last night on the game

Atwell should never have been allowed to ref another pro game after the “ghost goal” in the Watford v reading game a few years ago. He is the most useless of useless cunts. Even when I’m watching other none city games I think to myself “ you poor fuckers have got him today”. As for the other fat **** doing the VAR, well that just about sums him up. Another useless ****!

In an absolute melee of unbelievably shite decisions by that cheating twat atwell tonight the most baffling was when he gave a foul against Stones on their keeper just because he dropped it, fucking useless bent bastard and Moss can fuck off aswell.

VAR is meant to be there to improve the game and come to the correct decisions, all it is is bent bastards backing up whatever decision the other bent bastards have made on the pitch

lol

Doubt he ever played even basis playground football. Just thinks if you run into someone you must have been fouled. Welbeck also threw himself across Cancello as taught at Old Toilet

Given the totally incorrect decisions by the ref, that the BT ref agreed with them, that the punditry panel glossed over them, that there is no review or referee accountability, or the whole VAR team missed multiple obvious errors. I'd say that cheating and manipulation of results would be easy given that nothing will /has been said. I don't believe that sort of thing goes on but my god if nothing gets questioned then somewhere someone has learnt something. I am rambling now, off to work.

Joe Mercer in the 60s: I thought I'd seen every fuckin way to score a goal but you've just shown me another.
Pep Guardiola in the 2020's: I thought I'd seen every shit referee that PiGMOL have sent our way, but you've just sent us the shittiest.

Yep commentator desperately screaming no penalty great tackle when Jesus was wiped out also disgraceful. How is that acceptable commentary?

Jimmy Greaves used to say its all about opinions which is true about most things in life.

But when everyone has the same opinion something is fishy. Life just ain't like that.

It must be the only time a couple of useless cunts are also a couple of useless dicks.

Attwell would be better fitted for the part of Captain Mainwaring in a a revamp of Dad's Army. "I'm in charge. Godfrey, did you fail to salute when I entered the drill hall. Red card. Don't come back till next parade!"
