Ref Watch

No idea who was today's buffoon, but I actually thought he was very refreshing in the way he handled most things, seemed to actually know the "advantage" rule for a change, and didn't seem to have any agenda to me. I did think 3 minutes added after 2 goals and 10 subs was a bit under done, but he was maybe just sick of the weather ? I know I was.
I think refs quite often play little or no added on time in cup games that are over as a contest and where obviously goal difference is not an issue

there was a fairly recent cup game at the Etihad, where we were beating a lower league team by a landslide and he blew the whistle dead on 90 minutes

Yeah but that is not in the laws of the game, I understand it, but it shouldn't really happen.

I was sat next to a kid at the game today he's only 16 and had reffed in the morning and sent someone off for foul and abusive language and do you know what that takes some balls so all the wanna be Pep's with your initials on your clothing don't blame the ref when it goes Pete Tong blame your self or your shit coaching, when you can't get a ref on a Saturday or Sunday look in the mirror some of you. yeah I'm angry CITY CITY CITY, Yeah that kid is my son.

If I ever reffed a PL game my first action would be to inform both captains that I was gonna apply the LotG re timewasting. Second time it happens there's a card coming out. Would be good to put a goalie on a yellow for timewasting after the second goal kick. I think there isn't anything more outrageous in the way referees 'accommodate' timewasting and only appear to think it is an issue after 85 mins and one team is attempting to hang onto a point or three.
Yes commentators like to talk of 'laying down the law early' with cards for early fouls. Extending it to time wasting and dissent would see a better game for the spectator. Plus stopping the likes of Rooney screaming personal abuse from the first whistle, leading a pack of attack dogs to intimidate the officials.

I agree 100% about the VAR. ZERO accountability and Friend's been hung out to dry as a result of being sent over to the monitor as we all know that pretty much means he's been told to change his initial decision by "the powers that be".

Did Jon Moss get suspended for NOT giving a pen last year at Southampton?
Did Simon Hooper get any heat for not seeing any foul when DeBruyne was brought down outside or inside the box this year at Southampton? What about his VAR mate who didn't send him to the monitor for either this OR the studs into Laporte's thigh?

Either of these two/three incidents had just as much impact on the outcome of the match as Friends/the VAR's actions at Palace.

I just KNEW that all the attention would be switched onto the Liverpool penalty and the "general poor standard of refereeing" rather than "manchester city are refereed differently to other clubs".

It's all smoke and mirrors.
Whilst I agree with your general sentiment, ie we get fucked over.

The Simon Hooper one is actually correct use of VAR. Firstly it was clearly a foul and secondly I think it was on the line so therefore a penalty. However if VAR decides the foul isn't clearly in the area (or on the line), a foul outside the area, unless for a straight Red or an offside doesnt allow VAR to give a foul. Stupid rule but that is the rules.

Should have been given as it should have been a penalty, but if its decided it isn't in the area then the ref can't be overruled to give a foul.

I watched MCWFC v The Arse women the last week and as soon as we scored our goal three Arse players were in the face of the ref. What would happen in rugby if that happened should be applied to football. Too many refs have been intimidated or have accommodated this kind of behaviour to the detriment of the game.

I thought he was the best ref we’ve had this season, apart from the substitute ref we had (was that the Cup in the previous round?). He treated us fairly, for a change.

Although I do reserve judgement until he refs us in a more serious game.

I always have a quick shufty at the ref before the game starts and didn't clock this ref, but he had a very robust game. There were some challenges, hefty ones, that weren't fouls, and players wearing black or blue, he allowed the game to continue. And he was pretty clear, as it was clarity personified, that Jack had been clattered.

I referred to Rooney specifically as he always had an excuse to have a barney with a ref. It was plain as anything that he was swearing and his face and whole demeanour told that he was being offensive. Refs did nowt and rags or even England knew that Rooney was top dog over a weak ref.
While l am on l had to listen to Radio Manchester as l had the double whammy of not being able to go and getting a 'dangerous site' warning from my Norton on every site l tried on Sportek.
Any it seemed there was no noticeable VAR investigions with any of the goals. I wonder what the actual situation was for people there or watching on TV.
Paul Lake was excellent and it is a crime stuttering biased clowns get tv work and he doesn't.
Many years ago Paul sang the praises of a little kid in the Academy. Because of the lads age Paul would not give his name because the club wanted to bring him on quietly and without fuss. The lad came from Stockport and shows how good he was at a very early age.ĺ

The ref is Australian and this is his first year in the PL. Obviously not part of the Corrupt Ones yet. I think in Oz you can hear the on field and var regs talking. Perhaps one of the Aussie blues can confirm?
