Ref Watch

Not too bad overall. I wasn’t sure at the time if it was a pen or not. My only gripe was the soft fouls he gave them as they were constantly falling over when hardly touched. Doing it most of the game to try and stop our momentum
Very true.
Everytime we dispossessed them of the ball he blew up.
It was a pen and should of been given as such.
He made it up a little bit by telling Penandes to stop whinging which I was ecstatic about

I thought Oliver reffed the game pretty well yesterday. Much rather have a ref that lets things go than one that gives free kicks for everything.

Sure, he could have booked more players. What would that have achieved though? Only Maguire was in any danger of being sent off and surely we want him on the pitch for comedic value. He’s their new Phil Jones.

Could it have been a penalty? Yeah, it could, but the way he reffed the game, those sorts of tussles weren’t given as fouls.

Could Oliver have given a penalty for the Walker challenge on about 40 mins? Yes, but he didn’t as he was consistent.

We battered them. We don’t need to bang on about every little decision that could have gone more our way.
I'm not just talking about this game, him ripping us off big time goes 3 years back.

Sorry to hear that. Hope you can move on at some point.
Too many big 'mistakes' from him against us in the recent years to ignore. As I've said, our chairman should collect all the examples over the years and hand it to the FA for investigation.

I think Oliver was a **** who decided to turn a blind eye and let United foul as much as they wanted
I don't quite agree with this. I didn't think there were many fouls that he let them get away with.

The obvious one is of course the Foden penalty claim. The angle from behind Oliver shows exactly what he was looking at and to give a United foul for that is a disgrace.

On the whole, however, I thought he got the fouls right.

What he didn't get right were the cards. There was a challenge in the centre circle in the first half when the score was still 1-0, Maguire on KDB. That was a borderline yellow that Maguire got away with. Then there was that awful challenge on KDB that Maguire got a yellow for, even though VAR wouldn't have overturned a red. Then there was the accumulation of fouls that should have seen several yellows but didn't produce any. I watched the game again yesterday and when KDB was pulled down on the edge of their area (the shot that went straight down De Gea's throat) you could see Phil Foden saying to the ref 'how many?' The frustration that their repeated fouls weren't being carded was clear, and it was felt throughout the stands.

So at every turn he was giving the rags the benefit of the doubt. That's what he does, and it doesn't matter whether they are at home or away.

I don't actually remember them touching the ball in our area - even their goal was a shot from the 18 yard line - so perhaps it's no surprise he didn't award them a penalty.

Also one on Laporte from Penandes.
He was never getting the ball and so could of pulled his foot back, but no he left one on Laporte.
Tyler said Oliver is having a good think about it but as decided not to issue a card.
Hmmmmm there wasn't a lot to think about, it should of been a booking and Penandes knew it cos he couldn't apologise to Laporte enough

Yep. That's one that could/should have been a yellow on its own. Often in a case like that even when the ref doesn't show a yellow there and then he will do the next time that player commits any foul.

Not this time.

Oliver is an awful ref with everyone it is just a matter of whether you think he is doing it on purpose, but what should not have happened is that offside flag, how many times have the linesman flagged this season only to be overturned, he should be raising his flag only if it is obvious VAR is there for tight decisions, he is a cheat now Mane`s goal looks offside even with the VAR lines.

I didn't watch the Liverpool CL game last night but listened on the radio. The dodgy Spanish ref, Lahoz, apparently sent off Sancho for a second yellow the minute after Inter had scored. Apparently he got the ball and even Lalana the Liverpool supporting pundit said he couldn't understand why he got a second yellow. Inter were livid and got their deputy coach red carded for protesting, (like he gave Pep for protesting when we had a legitimate goal chalked off, also playing Liverpool in the CL!)

It's what I expected in our CL final, 2 yellows doesn't get VAR and there's nothing anyone can do. I still believe that is why Pep didn't play a traditional DM from the start. Maybe in future years the truth about Lahoz will be fully revealed?

I thought it was reported he was given the CL final last season as he was apparently stepping down from reffing duties and that was his way of bowing out?

Yeah I heard reports about that before the CL final, but as you say no retirement happened. Given the intense hostility between Lahoz and Pep historically, this seemed a hugely controversial pre-match appointment by Uefa.

Personally I put pre-match bets on that we would have a man red carded and Chelsea would get a penalty. I genuinely think Pep changed his team to try and counter Lahoz?

As it happened our changes probably contributed to our loss, and Lahoz and Uefa were all smiles after, his appointment had succeeded. However if we had somehow got a goal, I think Lahoz would have done his "2 yellows" or given a penalty against us.

He was given the final because he wanted the shaft our team, and more importantly our gaffer. His ego is all about baiting Pep.

If you look into the slimy, cheating bastard he supposedly retired after the Champions League final, do you not remember him crying like it was all about him? He refereed in the euro's a couple of times but that was supposed to be that.

Anyway, he's still hanging around and for me it's got that horrible frog looking twat Tebas written all over it. He was also the referee when we beat Brugge 4-1 at home but there was nothing he could do with that.

UEFA will be saving him to do his stuff for them when we get drawn with a team he can 'work' with.

German rags then...

Now if i heard correctly that was the ref`s last FA cup game, it must have been the first foul he has given Jesus as well, and it was a penalty, perhaps someone remembers another? but with 3 goals one a VAR checked penalty 10 substitutions and a booking for time wasting, he gave 2 minutes of extra time the same as the first half?. On that note do we have the most bookings for goalkeepers time wasting?

Said the same to my mate and he said does it matter. Yes it does was my response, regardless of the score. Why not blow at 88 minutes if that is the case and say the game is over. How can a keeper be booked for time wasting but the time isn't then added on. They make it up as they go along as there probably should have been six minutes minimum added on yesterday.
