Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

Ah well, after a few games of what I thought were reasonable referee performances, I suppose it was inevitable we would get a fuck up.

Not sure it was anything to do with bias, I just think he fucked up. A yellow card in the first few seconds may have set a tone.

I would really like to know what game management instructions the referee's get before big games like this.

He made the wrong decision with their first goal and knew it. Seemed to even it up with the red, was generally poor on time wasting and couldn't impose his authority on the game. Medical staff running on the pitch without permission summed it up. Weak.

Still, not much damage done. Do we know who is reffing Newcastle yet?

Interesting the views on this referees forum.

Well I'm afraid Michael Oliver has made a rod for his own back there. Fail safe when he brings Walker in to speak to him has to be to make sure he is back in position - same as with a substitution.

I think he will be kicking himself on that one - of course Walker should be smarter in getting back quickly, but it's an avoidable problem.

The Trossard sending off in contrast is 100% player stupidity

And this is a forum that actually has Michael Oliver fans. The substitution analogy is an excellent one. If there was a free kick and we substituted a defender just before it was taken, the referee wouldn't then allow a quick free kick before the player had got into their position. Otherwise every time a team substituted a player at a corner, the attacking team would just take it quickly before the new player had reached the box.

Also something I brought up earlier too:

I actually think when a player goes down injured, like Raya did, there should be a "zone" that players can't go in to or they have to go into that's nowhere near coaches.
As you said, it is blatant killing time and tactical changes considering how Arsenal are not even in this second half.

And they key word there is decisions. These twats get one decision go against them and you never hear the end of it. Meanwhile almost every other decision in the match goes in their favour.
Most of the socials sports page have Oliver mocked up in a City shirt. Or a headline saying he was our best player. Arsenal fans most likely.

Oliver was just terrible in general.

Oliver tries to exude the notion that he sits above the game, an aloofness, a detached but solid hand on the tiller. It's an illusion. He allows blatant fouls to go unpunished - Savinho's trip in front of CBL and Eddie fouled at their second goal - and any contact that terminates with a red shirt on the floor is, by its nature, a foul. The unfortunate thing for fans and the game is that the arbitrators and administrators will have yesterday's performance down as strong refereeing. He, like every other ref I've seen, is inadequate, even with the added benefit of VAR they are inadequate. It's political refereeing that attempts to avoid controversy as the first aim rather than applying the LotG as they are written. Won't be long before games are settled post-match by a bunch of lawyers.

The problem is England. Ye are just shit at refereeing, video assisting and Premier League officiating.

Get in some Johnny Foreigners. So what if they take yer women.

Still amazes me how anyone can think that, all started because he appeared in Saudi once. I absolutely loathe Oliver. How can anyone watch Arsenal's 2 goals and still think Oliver is "our referee".

Go further back with the Liverpool showdowns, and the penalties for Salah's dives. Everytime he refs one of our big games, you can count on controversies to happen.

Bewildered how Oliver continues to get to ref big games.
