Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

Was always in the laws as it was one of those "What can goalkeepers not do that all other players on the pitch can do?" quiz questions.

Seemed that keepers were allowed to wear them around 1994 (US World Cup) and then others followed and it's now ignored or even taken from the laws.

Was always about aiding the ref to make decisions about handball in the area.

It definitely was a law, 100%
The history of this is, GKs weren't allowed short sleeves shirts so that an hand scooping the ball away could be distinguished as the GK. The criteria was dropped when the large GK gloves became common as these allowed the ref to be certain who's hand it is.

I know he was not the reason we committed suicide but fuck me, bad ! He was their best defender.
Twice he got in our way, once he shoulder charged Haaland (sort of)
Couldn't stamp his authority on the penalty, that alone is 3 different issues, it was that much of a farce.

Simply put, he was not upto such a big game.
I was happy when I saw Turpin was the official as normally he is fair I couldn't believe how bad he was last night and with my blue tinted glasses he seemed to favor Real as you rightly pointed out

He also didn't give a corner for Madrid when Ederson tipped Valverde's shot over the bar in the first half, and didn't give the most blatant foul of the night from Bernie on Bellingham right on the edge of our box in stoppage time, he was the least of our problems.

The ref was fine last night, you could argue he kept his cards in his pocket but he was fair and equal. Anybody moaning about him prove that referees can never ever win.
I thought he was OK, but was never going to get the cards out while 6 Madrid players were on potential bans

I didn't get that vibe at all. We've had far worse referees than last night. Apart from getting in the way a couple of times (especially the Haaland one), I can't really recall too much he did wrong

He gave us a pen, didn't buckle and leave it to VAR. Bernardo got away with the most blatant booking you will ever see. People will argue he done well keeping the cards away, only really Bellingham who could have got one for me for a slight pull. Ref was fair and that's all you can ask for.

I want to know how / why we keep getting Trossard as referee, he plays for Arsenal for gods sake!

Thought he was OK myself, VAR isn't down to him. I would have liked to have seen him book Bellingham early doors but other than that, he did his job.

Really surprised that no yellow card issued on a very competitive match like last night.
Unless Madrid having four players only a yellow card away from suspensions was a factor. I wonder ??????

He reffed exactly as he was told too. Had a perfect game not issuing any yellow cards. Therefore no Madrid suspensions

Yellow cards tend to be given for bad fouls and there really weren't any that I can recall from the game, said to mate at ht that it was unusual as only been a couple of fouls.
