I wonder at what point a booking is a booking. He wrote Delph’s name on a yellow card. That to me implies he has been booked. Waving the card is merely confirmation for the crowd. I reckon we could appeal this on that basis. Delph should also put in a request for the transcript of the conversation with the referee concerning the incident to the FA.

He's a wrong un no doubt about it. The Chelsea incident and this smacks of corruption. The bald cùnt should never 'referee' a match of ours again.

They have to show the card under the rules, don't they, but a ref only usually writes something in his 'book', or on the back of the card in these days, as an aide memoire to ensure he remembers to send off a player if he receives a second yellow later in the game. There's no need to write the name of a player receiving a straight red. Very suspicious from an impartial official.

I'm just wondering, in the clear light of day, whether the yellow card the pillock showed first was the second that Delph received last night. Were the Pie Eaters and their manager livid with Taylor replicating 'a Poll series of yellows' and were only subdued when the red quickly followed. I just wonder if he got one for 'walking aggressively' down the tunnel after the warm up?

I don't have a problem with the red, i think it just about was. But why the change of mind? Pressure from Wigan players or communication from his assistants?

This. Had the tackle been made and he'd run straight over brandishing the red card I'd have been annoyed but having seen it a few times I could see why he'd given it as such. The whole thing of writing it on the yellow and then changing to red has left him wide open to accusations of him being influenced. The next game he referees now, whoever the teams are, he will find himself surrounded after every single decision.

VAR has many downsides, but this is why it needs to be introduced. Last night, all the incidents mentioned would have been looked at by another ref and, most importantly, the decisions would have been explained. The two similar tackles would have the same punishment - although I doubt Delph would be 'diving in' if Wigan were down to ten men.
The refs have too much power, allowing for a bent / incompetent one to be the major reason for a result.
Hopefully, with VAR, Sunday's final will be decided by the better team and not a corrupt ref.

Hahaha, going a bit far mate suggesting that goose is an 'impartial official'. 'Incompetent official' is much closer to the truth :P
Lol, but if you had no prior knowledge of him, this would be the view. If he feels the need to write down the name if a player he's sending off, at least do it after he's done it, as otherwise it just looks like you've bowed to pressure from the complaining team.

I actually thought it was a red, and maybe, just maybe, he was going to be lenient and then remembered (or someone reminded him) about Pep's speech a few weeks ago about poor challenges going unpunished, and changed his mind.
