2 minutes of injury time was pure and simple cheating. Then he blows before we can take the corner. There must be a reason for this kind of thing other than the ref is shit.

When time is up, it's up. It can only be extended for a penalty kick, but when the ref says time is up, who the fuck believes him. Apart from blatant bending of the LotG to favour one team over another, I think there is no better way to massage the result of a game than to fiddle the added time. Why we do not have one big fuck off clock that counts down and only records ball in play time I will never know! The FArce or PiGMOL won't tell me!

The time added on by Lahoz was laughable. Time added on is at the discretion of the ref. Well it shouldn't be a discretionary matter. He should have a stop watch that the Whistling Wanker should stop for all the things that are not to do with the flow of the game. Goal scored - stop the clock. Whistle blown - stop the clock. Players taking five minutes over a goal kick or a throw in - stop the clock! It's simple. WhyTF the simplest thing is not employed can only lead one to conclude that there is some element of subterfuge at play!

a timekeeper as in rugby league where theref halts time for any delay would be the way but for some reason like var certain teams don't seem keen

Understand the point you are making here Dave, but games would last for an eternity! Like American Football over here if we are not careful, they last anywhere from 3-4 hours!

I've heard this said many times before, but disagree completely. When teams realise that time wasting, feigning injury, etc, means that the clock stops and they still have to play the time remaining, they won't do it. At present, whilst the time added on by the referee is discretionary, they will continue to cheat, which is what they are doing, often with the referee's complicit agreement. It is their way of "managing the game", often, in my opinion, on instructions from above. Taking away this duty from him and giving it to an independent timekeeper would, I think, speed the game up. Sr Lahoz in the Liverpool home leg first half adding no extra time showed up UEFA's instructions to him had worked perfectly.

Don't agree, think they'd still do the same timewasting stuff, it's not always about the time but about breaking up the flow of the game as well.

That being said a 3 hour game where we'd actually get 90 mins play would be a winner in my eyes.

Fear of losing an advantage perhaps ?
Very possibly - the problem with VAR as it stands is that it is there to clear up an obvious made by the ref. If the ref doesn't think there is an obvious error it shouldn't go to VAR. That is how the system can be manipulated. So when Smallthing constantly holds people at a corner the ref won't look at VAR etc

Simple rule changes would make a huge difference to the running of the game. Any player that goes down injured without foul and requires a trainer should be ineligible to return to play until he has served the time he has wasted. The 6 second rule never gets applied to goalkeepers as it is from when the keeper is deemed to have full control of it and can distribute down field. Make it simpler they should have a maximum of 15 seconds as soon as they catch the ball and any after gives indirect free kick at edge of the box. Also when a player is fouled and has to have treatment on the pitch if the player is booked for that challenge he should leave the pitch with the injured player and only return when he can.
Problem with all of these is someone has to be in control of it and unfortunately the referees at the moment cant even control what is going on, on the pitch.

Not sure this is the correct place but it is a blog, by a United fan, who gives his perspective on why he thinks Wenger may have packed it in, but a clear indication of Dean's (not Dein's loyalties).

There will be some who will come on and dismiss his findings as irrational and that he has a tin-foil hat whilst ignoring the huge sums of money he makes from exposing corruption. In fact our own club have employed his services in the past.

A couple of interesting links to the corruption benefitting Fegueson and the referring of Grandad Walton and its impact on Man City, and probably why he was 'retired' to the USA a month after the blog.
