Referees/Officials Thread - 2023/24

Let me ask you this if Fulham had scored it what would you have said?
I wasn’t happy with the Sheff Utd goal as McBurnie was clearly off side , or so I thought, but it was explained he would have been ruled offside but Kyle Walker was behind the goal line so he is playing him on.

Similar today with Akanji who if you watch him doesn’t celebrate at all. He knows

I’d have been raging if that decision went against my team

Great example today in the Brentford game of what I said previously re:VAR being in constant contact with the ref - Brentford’s first goal is a free kick that crosses the line but the goal line tech fails, play goes on as VAR checks and goal is given.

If Walker played him onside, would an attacker be offside if he was off the pitch?

It’s the rules. I didn’t think it was correct but quick google search is all it took.

I don’t make the rules mate

Here is the ruling

The Laws of the Game are very clear on how to handle in these situations, but did you know this?

“A defending player who leaves the field of play without the referee’s permission shall be considered to be on the goal line or touchline for the purposes of offside until the next stoppage in play or until the defending team has played the ball towards the halfway line and it is outside their penalty area.”

don't understand how we can have 2 head injuries, 2 var checks and Fulham players arguing with the ref, but we only have 5 added on minutes in the first half when in the second half no incidents and we have 6 minutes added on.

plus regarding incidents in the first half I thought any player with head injury had to go off an be seen by a Dr before being allowed back on. Also I thought that players get booked if they dont respect the ref yet after the second goal the Fulham players all surrounding the ref with the goal keeper even following him to half line.

If Walker played him onside, would an attacker be offside if he was off the pitch?
If he was interfering with play, then yes.

It seems impossible for an attacker to interfere with play when off the pitch, so it’s as likely as Haley’s Comet landing on the Loch Ness Monster.

Curiously didn't Lillo say that he was told it was due to McBurnie not being in Ederson's eyeline?

I'd argue the fact that he collided with Ederson, suggests he did have an impact - but it suggests that it appears someone didn't know the rules regarding Walker. Hopefully it wasn't the officials.

I think they are dropping rules already or olivar was his usual twatty self , make a rule and keep it the whole season then everyone knows where they are , rules are like swamp land or sand , has been from the start of var

Well Taylor was at his worst again today. When Antony kicked the ball away , under the new rules, that should have been a yellow. Antony tried to blame it on not hearing the whistle. But if that is case who was he "passing" the ball to.
Then to ask for a review of the penalty???
