Referees/Officials

Gets more and more bizarre by the week....

Have you ever seen a ref in the PL let so much go as last night?

Thought i was watching a rugby game at one point as several Stoke players formed a ruck around Kun!

"Play on" was the cry......

Not sure the referee called many big decisions wrong last night; Toure arguably should have been booked for handling the ball. However, where the officials get it very wrong is allowing time to be wasted from the very off. Stoke's players were taking an age over throw ins and retrieving the ball at a snail's pace. Couple that with players repeatedly going down with mystery injuries, and you have a game peppered with stoppages that kills momentum, sedates the crowd, and kills enjoyment.

High time the multi-ball system was made mandatory in the league. I'd go further, though, and would like to see teams given 5 seconds to get the ball back in play or see possession turned over.

I thought the ref's game management was appalling last night, and he appeared to be completely on board with sjoke's game plan. Thank fuck we only have to watch Hughes team twice a season

No argument about it.

Swarbrick is an awful referee at best, and he wasn't at his 'best' last night, though I think its fair to say he had little influence on the result for once.

I disagree although he didn't have a direct result, because he allowed Stoke to get away with everything the flow of our play was disrupted stopping us getting into any rhythm. Diouf was falling to the ground on every occasion wasting time pretending to be injured the stoppage for the treatment in the first half was over a minute coupled with the persistent time wasting at every opportunity then to allow the statuary 1 min was ridiculous I predicted at HT that he would add 4mins which off course is exactly what he allowed during the 4 mins they wasted more than a minute did he allow any more of course not He was very poor 2/10 and that's for turning up

As I put in the post match thread it's time to have an independent timekeeper and if the ball isn't in motion the click stops.

I/we were robbed of probably 10 minutes again last night rather than the usual 4/5 per game.

How the fuck does fibre glass not give away a penalty and get a second yellow for deliberate handball in the area?

Come on. BBS. Yer know the answer to that, or are yer just being the Devil's advocate?

The interpretation of 'fouls' by refs is one massive area where games are won and lost, or won and not won! Last night there were two fouls on two of our players, KdB was one, I forget the other, within seconds of each other, and the next challenge, nowhere near as robust as the two Swarbrick poo-pooed, draws a free kick for Stoke. There was an instant in the second half where Aguero went on a mazy run and the defender was nibbling for about ten yards, Sergio ends up on his face and play continues. I still cannot come to terms with the 'fact' that we might have 71% of the ball and we end up with the same percentage of the fouls!
