Referees/Officials

Interesting story in the Torygraph about a dispute between Riley and the PL over video reffing. The PL wants the VAR to tell the ref something's happened but Riley wants the on-field ref to have control over when to use the VAR and for the ref to have the final say. I'll bet he does.

It's all rather convoluted. I can imagine any goal the Rags concede would have the previous 10 minutes reviewed until they find a reason not to give it, whilst any goal they score would just have all appeals waved away.

Either side of that argument above clearly has its ulterior motives, can't ever imagine either being on our side.

that being said, Riley's option is ludicrous as proven by Kassai running over to look a numpty, only to give the wrong decision. The PL option is evidently already in use this season in some form, judging by the way refs in some games have been hanging around waiting to be told what decision/card to give.

Neither will work fairly, refs need to be audible to TV/crowd, with proper reviews and video replays on big screens where they are installed. All that will happen is the snidey VAR will be on "what are City players doing that in slo-mo from an obscure angle looks hideous" watch, whilst they will never flag up the latest Ibra elbow.

Enough time is wasted in matches already without having Jon Moss, for example, waddle over to the sidelines to adjudicate.

The delays for decisions in rugby seem interminable, when you are in the ground, and these time delays obviously have to be filled with audible chewing gum for the masses, so you end up with blaring music. Whichever is introduced has to be accurate but also swift so that no further momentum is lost.

Probably.
I'm pretty sure the Lino actually guessed because he was a yard behind play.
I think the six yard box line made it a fairly easy decision for him.

As I have said if a video ref is used, every decision made and referee comms needs to be publicly available - preferably not on the day of the game as that would be pure "Bread and Circus" TV that as a race of sentient beings we really should do without.
