Referees' Performances | 2025/26

2012 - Aguero?

Mike Dean could have pulled that goal back for a balotelli penalty.
This always makes me laugh.
The reason he didnt give a penalty was because he botled it.
Can you imagine the rag media headlines if we had scored that penalty, deep into injury time to win the league ?
Rughead is still moaning the match was fixed, his fat head would have exploded if we'd won by a last kick of the game penalty, so no Dean didn't do us any favours, he chickened out.

Compare with the PL version.

As an aside the sporting fraud allegations being made in Italy alleges a referee standing outside the VAR room of certain games directing the officials on should they instruct the on field ref to look at the screen or not.

I wonder if that's the role of Match Commanders that Webb introduced?

So he should have been sent off, according to the post match review. But the threshold was not met for VAR.

Please make it make sense. How can it be deemed a red card in a review after the game, but not in the actual game itself? Absolute joke.

So they say it should have been a red - so how about a retrospective ban? Why don't they do that now?

If it’s the other way around Haaland gets a red and no one including City fans would complain. Taylor never had any hesitation sending our players off or giving penalties against us.

Higher bar for clear and obvious when Taylor or Oliver are the on field refs.

So the panel have decided it should have been a red. Yet there can be no retrospective action, and I doubt we'll see the officials demoted or rested either.

So what now if Gabriel pops up with a winner? I'd happily say can't do anything now and just crack on and win it regardless, but compare and contrast to the Doku challenge, the handball at the weekend, and something does indeed smell funny at pgmol.

It’s corrupt as fuck if you look at it from a sporting perspective, but makes perfect sense from an entertainment one.

If that happens they'll make a change over the summer to say that they'll do retrospective punishments when the panel agree a red should have been given.

It's the PGMOL way - try and appear to do the correct thing to prevent it happening again, but don't fix it at the time and cross your fingers that it doesn't have a really obvious impact.

Like the 5 yard offside goal at the swamp and Webb says afterwards "it won't happen again"
Well it shouldn't have happened at all and these are supposed elite referees

Let’s just be honest
PGMOL are not fit for purpose

The whole Gabriel a should have been red but VAR was right not to intervene is purely so at the end of the season they can tell us they only made 24 VAR errors in the season
In reality we all know they make about five every single weekend.

It is corruption
It’s a system designed to tell you something you know is wrong

Foden pen against newcastle
Bernado pen against Burnley
Gabriel red
Dalot red
Brighton pen against arsenal
Everton pen against Arsenal
Liverpool offside v Fulham
Bruno g offside against us

It’s endless

So they say it should have been a red - so how about a retrospective ban? Why don't they do that now?
Because Sky wanted an end of season, nervy, edge of the seat scenario.
Banning a key defender from one of the two teams for 3 games would upset the balance.
Its why he wasnt sent off by the ref and why Var agreed with him.

Its all about money.

Remember when they used to say they all even themsevles out over the course of a season?

By that reckoning we are owed about six absolute howlers in our last half dozen games.

Didn't need a panel to tell us its an obvious red completely ignored. But now that they've officially recognised it, Why isn't there retroactive punishment for it and a 3 game ban given? There is no reason not to. They're already undermining the officiating by telling us they got it wrong so correct the error to the best of their ability.
