Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Two key decisions (non penalty on Foden and Guimares offside in their second goal) plus a very debateable non penalty for the handball from Doku's shot, which to me was a 60/40 penalty for City. To have all 3 decisions not go in your favour is quite remarkable and seems a hangover from the Liverpool disallowed goal agenda.
The other thing that is becoming a recurrent theme of us playing away at Newcastle is the leniency they have to repeatedly foul us (Joelinton, Tonali and Guimares particularly). I noticed Joelinton last season getting away with foul after foul with several late, dangerous tackles. Howe is obviously instructing his players to "rough us up" as far as possible (based on yesterday and last season) and weak refereeing allows them a significant advantage.

People are going to fuck watching football off if it isn't sorted. There's no consistency and the all singing dancing var cant get stuff right after taking ages to.look at incidents. The standards of referees is poor to say the least. It needs to go back to what it was originally brought in for, clear offsides, serious foul play and blatant penalties missed.
There's a part of me thinks these lengthy VAR reviews are to allow the decision maker to CREATE the required decision or outcome. Last night's match was not far off confirming this in my book.

Has anyone got a decent clip of what happened to Donnarumma on their second? I wasn't paying attention to his part in it but he did seem pretty pissed off

What concerns me more than us getting shafted is that there’s now cast iron proof that they are fucking about with semi automated offsides and making shit up. As I said in the other thread, if it wasn’t being manipulated then why did it take 4 minutes.

Why didn’t we see lines put against the image which normally happens? Instead we saw nothing then th semi automated image put up long after the game restarted.

All the noise the dippers have been making for two weeks made sure that performance from Pgmol happened against us.

They don’t put the lines there any more, semi automated var supposedly uses AI to generate the image and the only time it’s supposed to have a problem is if there are too many players and limbs getting in the way. However, there was none of that yesterday as literally just Dias and Guimaraes so should have been able to provide the image instantly, the fact it wasn’t shows it was bent.

You can guarantee that if the offside was given against any team in red that would be the big story. But instead it’s the challenge on Foden which they have turned into debatable.

Just a shove in the back, but dimwit Micah says Donna is a big lad and needs to be stronger, so it isn't a foul. Funnily enough, I can't see that caveat in the laws of the game.

Tonali must have made 4/5 fouls first half alone. Barratt looked like he ref'd well (because he kept his cards in his pocket) but allowing constant fouling, without caution, made it easy for their midfield to disrupt our flow.

Had Tonali/Guimareas and orbJoelinton been carded they'd have had to change their approach. Their bench was weak and we'd have definitely got more space.

However, we were poor, particularly second half, but it's interesting that officials seem to change the rules when we play em.

I always think back to Altrincham's finest at Anfield. He let everything go; and I mean EVERYTHING.
We score and the VAR pulls it back for a challenge by Haaland in the build up!

We we're never getting anything yesterday and the geordies knew it, this was part of the leveling up following the non goal against the murderers.
From minute one their midfield three were flying in, knowing they would go un punished, as for the potential penalties, again never gonna happen, we upset the golden boys a fortnight ago, and now paying the price.
Corrupt as fuck.

Craig Pawson…. His level of corruption was best showcased when he refereed the City Arsenal FA Cup semi final. That was possibly the most one sided and corrupt performance I’ve ever witnessed from an official. Arsenal kicked David Silva out of the game and he did nothing but book City players for complaining about his ineptness. There was of course a wrongly disallowed goal (Aguero) and a blatant offside winner to complete an all star bent performance. People like Pawson are enemies of the game and need ridding out.

Micah probably judges things based upon his own physique. It would take quite some shove to move his lardy arse!

In what league, year, era, universe is THAT ^^^ NOT a late, both feet off the ground, over the top, eyes closed, ankle breaker of a foul?

Anywhere else on the field, it’s at least a foul and a yellow card, if not more.

In what world do PAWSON ET AL NOT SEE THAT AS A FOUL?

Can’t wait to see what Red Specs Webb has to say about that!!
Ball had already gone ;) - oh and according to dear old Craig there wasn't enough contact to ask his colleague to review on the monitor.
I guess only actually breaking Phils ankle would have been seen as "sufficient"
