Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Maybe a referee could be asked to explain the difference between the penalty awarded Arsenal when Ederson made contact with Nketiah after he got his shot away and yesterday’s incident. Not holding my breath.

Completely agree. IFAB guidance with the shot being taken is that it's whether it was reckless or not - can't find a cogent argument to say a late tackle on the ankle isn't reckless.

Didn't we get a pen last season/season prior where Gvardiol was fouled after the shot?

The time to complain is after a decision has gone in our favour, all we are doing is adding to the 'well you would say that' narrative.

Fans need to complain loudly, and consistently and not just when it's gone against them.

We were promised an end to controversy and an increase in consistently applying standards o best practice in decision making. It is clear that we have have been misled at best, lied to at worst.

IFAB LAWS OF THE GAME
LAW 11: Offside

For the purposes of determining offside, the upper boundary of the arm is in line with the bottom of the armpit.

CLEARLY OFFSIDE, as shown by the RED LINE, EVEN THOUGH THEY DID NOT FOLLOW THE LETTER OF THE LAW BY USING THE ARMPIT!

Picture 2: AI AUTOMATIC OFFSIDE

View attachment 175658

Suddenly, THE LAWS OF THE GAME HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO USE THE WHITE BAND ON HIS SLEEVE, WHICH IS THE NEAREST POINT UP THE ARM THAT ALLOWS GUIMARES’ FOOT TO BE ONSIDE.

Of note, in this AI DEPICTION, Dias, who was standing in real life is shown in the air, apparently jumping!

BENT AS A NINE BOB NOTE…and no-one can convince me otherwise!

Honest question: Have they put him in the air in order to allow them to change the lines, given the perspective of the picture???

In the first picture Dias has his right arm tucked in to his body, in the AI generated image the arm is away from the body which can only mean one thing, that Pawson deliberately chose a frame later in the play to be able to make an onside call.

This is PROOF that it is nothing other than corruption and if anyone on here has connections in the press, I would hope they could pass it on. This needs investigating. Combine that with the non penalty incidents in the first half and it stinks.

The match stats on the BBC site make interesting reading.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/live/cvgv2n4n2xvt#MatchStats

We had a lot more possession, covered slightly more ground and had more shots and 8 fouls compared to 12. The latter were the ones that were given and Newcastle probably should have been penalised for 20+ fouls.

We ended the match with three yellow cards compared to their one which supports the view of those saying the reffing was poor.

The real issue was our failure again to take good opportunities early in the match. I think we are playing well and this is just one of those results which do not show that.

ThVAR at refereeing/VAR performance ensured we would not win yesterday. There is no other explanation of the multiple major decisions all going against us plus the application of fouls and cards to the two teams.

Phil Penalty
Handball Penalty
Their second foul and offside

VAR was used to legitimise these decisions

no clear and obvious error
hands by body
insufficient contact/onside

It really is a joke.

Would be genuinely interested in a counter view.

Maybe the English version of football is also being decided in Las Vegas before every season starts too.

I think that was Ait-Nouri fouling Gvardiol in our victory over Wolves, and Pawson, who was apparently on VAR duties yesterday, was subsequently criticised by the Key Match Incident Panel (3-2 against his decision) for awarding it. Doesn’t excuse it, but one can start to see why he chose not to intervene yesterday.

The only one I feel strongly about is the Phil one, thought that was a quite obvious reckless challenge.

The handball is a subjective one, think VAR would have gone with whatever had been decided on the pitch.

Their second goal, I didn’t think it was enough for a foul and Donnarumma needed to be stronger. The offside, I haven’t seen enough to be convinced either way if it was offside or not but it’s that close that personally I’ve never been that bothered with those where I don’t think there’s a clear advantage from it. I get that in the world we’re in now though, VAR has changed how people judge offsides and as a consequence, it does have to show that it got it right and they haven’t done that yet either.

I know the ball had gone, and a still image is never perfect , but what the fuck is happening when this is ok.

I think we’ll be waiting a long time for a decision to go our way, that wasn’t correct anyway….

I think for me its all of that taken together in the same match makes me wonder. As far as the offside goes, I have seen enough images to believe something out of the ordinary happened. Maybe its not sinister but the total lack of transparency or discussion makes it so.

So the dippers bleating against us has already paid off.
They wanted to be be beaten 3-1 and not 3-0 so kicked up a national stink.
Next game out for us, royally fucked over.
Fuckin hate the hold the dippers have over the media/premier league/refs

It really is that clear what happened. It's a fucking national disgrace that the dippers can have the press/media and officials that scared of them

Yeah it’s rare that it all happens in one game.

On the offside, I think they’ll have to come out and explain it more. I haven’t seen one that’s actually drawn the line from the right place to be able to tell. The ones on social media are going directly down from the bottom of the armpit, which is wrong too.

excuse my ignorance but where should it be drawn from?

30 cameras and AI are surely not in on a conspiracy?

Humans only have any input with offsides now to stop the footage at the point the ball is played. Humans have no further input after that point into offsides anymore.

We should definitely see and hear the VAR processes though.

When organising and compiling a list of things to present to the PL+PIGMOL we can’t bring conspiracy stuff into it, we have to present legitimate arguments. We will not get listened to if we bring conspiracy stuff into it.
