Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Do you think it was about 'not ruining a product' ?
If he had been sent off the match was over and neutrals turn off. It was the same with the fa cup final, can't send the keeper off as it spoils the so called entertainment.
I ask because that's where I say it's corrupt. They do not referee to the rules but to the broadcaster.

I see your point but they don’t even apply those bent rules consistently. No way Ortega handles outside his area in the Cup Final and stays on the pitch. Remember VAR stopped the game,(in the Cup Final) but then didn’t send the ref to the monitor. I’d love to know what went on in that 5 mins… someone intervened and changed the decision - VAR saw the offence, raised it and then backed down. Clear corruption in a show piece final and the media said nothing.

There was nothing spectacularly bad from him imo. It was just continual and persistent smaller decisions that he gave to them. It was literally every 5 mins. Very annoying little man.

The thing that made me most suspicious was actually the 87 and 88 min cards for RM players. No worse offences than what had come before but shown at a point where the material impact on the game would be negligible. Made the numbers look more even handed though. If he says they were for the cumulative fouls well that point had been reach a good 30 minutes earlier.

On another night his performance could easily have resulted in a different outcome.

I said that on the day and will maintain forever that opinion. That game was as bent and corrupt as many I've witnessed against us. The fact a VAR official had connections to Palace is highly suspicious and irregular imo. And I say broadcasters/ commentators opinions which can be heard at Stockley Park influence - throughout that incident Shearer on co comms kept insisting it wasn't red.... how many times over the years have we heard GNIAC make a 'suggestion ' about an incident that coincidentally becomes the reason to 'award' ( in case of red cartel teams) or disallow ( any red cartel opponents, City etc). That cup final smelled of corruption.

Normally a ref Id trust.

First half thought he was okay.

Second half he did everything he could do to try and save them. It felt like a different ref to me, or one under different instructions at the very least...

The old stat padding trick, 2 or 3 harmless yellows to make it look even.

O’Reily yellow for next to nothing that thug took Savino out that was a yellow never gave it because they played would gone off!

That one decision alone tells anyone what the ref was like. To beat Madrid, you have to beat the referee as well. He hardly got a single big decision correct. Gave Vinicius a penalty when it was outside the box, didn't give Haalands penalty which was so blatant it was unreal and didn't send off Rudiger which was as stonewall a yellow and red you will ever see. The ref was in Madrids pocket all game and thankfully VAR was on hand to bail us out.

i generally didn't have too much of an issue with the Madrid ref, apart from the treatment of Rudiger's foul on Savinho compared to O'Reilly's yellow. Oh and that utterly ridiculous tackle on Doku was a definite yellow. So two things. Perhaps he was a bit shit after all.

From start to finish he wasn't interested in booking their players, unless it was so obvious he had to, although Rudiger must have had dirt on him because he seemed to have impunity from a second yellow.

I must say, the VAR for our penalty made me laugh. How come they spent so much time analysing it, but then when he went to look, he was almost embarrassed that he'd been even asked to review. Even he knew there was no way he couldn't give it.
