Referees' Performances | 2025/26

Aka “we got a couple of decisions that could have screwed us, so we’re happy, but we won’t admit that and just say the rules were applied correctly as we got our desired outcome.”
To take that view, you are admitting that the system is corrupt. So on a relative basis, 2 correct decisions are something to serenade. OK.

Tell me you're joking....please.
Unfortunately not. Those 2 are bottom of the barrel. Atwell's history is littered with corruption none greater than the derby atrocity. Gillet's CV includes the non handball call against Spurs last year.

And of course, the 2 formed a duo more deadly than Bonnie & Clyde in last year's cup final ...

Unbelievable isn't it and we get both twats again for a Palace game.

At least that Palace fan liner who was involved at Wembley has retired now.

I canot believe that fellow blues are talking about that Nunes " got away 2 pen and a red" I mean WTF . It was never pen not even close . That we / they are even talking about it underline the bias which are against us in the media. Nunes was defending its called good defending, every defender does it and it is never a pen , you have to do alot more for it to be consitered a pen. I have watched a lot of games in the PL and its never a pen . If this was a defender for the big red teams no one would be talking about this no one.

In absolute numbers we appear to be average on yellow cards-64. However we have the most possession and have committed the fewest fouls so our card per foul ratio is significantly higher than most other top teams. Arsenal have committed about 10% more fouls, had 10% less of the ball yet have only had 45 bookings so far. That jeopardy of having players on a yellow makes a massive difference over the course of a season. Finding how many cards are given to opponents per foul ratio is tough to find out without looking at every match individually.

Best one for me are the subtle ones, first half we foul a Brentford player at side of box in a dangerous position, they still have control of the ball yet he doesn’t play advantage and gives them the free kick. The EXACT opposite happens in the second half, in the same place, yet he allows play to carry on even though we aren’t in a threatening position.

Simple, but clever and intentional.
It's a subtle and dark art, which when employed skillfully can alter the course of a game whilst being almost undetectable in real-time.

It works on a psychological level in that it gets into the mindset of the players and affects their decision making process. It emboldens one team and frustrates the other. Like we saw yesterday with Bernardo lashing out. It was pure frustration at some of the decisions the referee was making. Same with Earling in the Arsenal game. That could seriously have boiled over, but he remained relatively composed. In the infamous Chelsea game where Alti was at it all game, it did boil over and we ended the game with 9 players.

Not even a consideration of a foul anywhere else on the pitch.

Brentford just mugged him off all game with time wasting, snide fouls etc.

Only thing that surprised me was he didn't give either penalty appeal but, in a honest world VAR would have put him right.... perhaps.
The current flavour is to stick with the on-field decision. I suspect if he'd given it they wouldn't have overturned it.

Absolutely fucking bent. They’ve decided they want Arsenal to win it this year and doing everything they can.

Impossible to beat this.

You can beat it by being so much better that even the corruption isn't sufficient to stop you. That's what we've done in previous seasons but this year we're not sufficiently better to compensate for it being bent.

Do they not book players for several fouls nowadays as Kayode must have fouled Doku 4 or 5 times
When I first started watching football some refs had a reputation as 'homers'. Yer don't find that label these days, but every fucker who turns up with a whistle at The Etihad is clearly an 'awayer'! The away teams at The Etihad get more than a fair crack of the whip.

Totally subjective decision to disallow a goal because a keeper fumbles a ball due to someone touching his arm.
Well done kavanagh on deciding the league.

Referees enter the pitch with the sole idea that they must avoid controversy at all costs. To disallow a Hammers' goal is less controversial than allowing it. The RDAHMeedya will fall in behind and maintaining that it was a strong refereeing performance. It's bent but that's the way football in the PL is arbitrated.
