Refusal to pay energy bills

They lost $21bn in 2020. Made $8bn last year. If they make $30bn this year they’ll only be making average profits over a 3 year period as compared to the 3 years prior to covid.

Some calm logic in this thread. I didn't expect that.
I'm quite concerned by the number that think it's okay to just not pay or to even propose this in the first place.

I’m 943.47 in credit with British Gas, I pay 153 per month but live in an extremely energy efficient house, cavity wall and loft insulation. My bill was calculated when Mrs H was furloughed during Covid and also when we were using the electric fire which we don’t anymore (have the Gas CH on).

I rang British Gas for a refund, they’re refusing to offer me more than 340. Now I know the bills will go up in Winter when these charlatans increase the price of energy but does anyone know what my legal stance is here? I was wanting around 600 back leaving just shy of 350 ad a credit.
They must legally explain their thinking, how they reached £340 decision. Ask them.

These astronomical prices are due to lack of refining capacity mate. Western governments policy has been to rely on cheap refining capacity from elsewhere and not build any resilience / spare capacity into our own refining capacity. Refineries don’t want to cover the cost of unused capacity and western governments refused to.

Once we imposed sanctions on Russia the west lost access to over 5 million barrels of refining capacity per day and had nothing to replace it with. In conjunction demand increased as the world came out of lockdown. It was already becoming a problem of supply and demand before Russia invaded but since then it’s become a perfect storm. Had we not imposed sanctions we wouldn’t be where we are today in terms of prices.
It's whether you believe it's all by design, that's the thing. I sure you are aware of the "You will own nothing and be happy" comment? Whatever happens mate, I mean you no malice...Just like I said, it's perspective and opinion and that should never be something that divides us, which is the name of the game IMO.

People have simply had enough of soaring bills and think that a message has to be sent.

i dont think it will be people refusing to pay it will be a lot of people unable to pay.then the shit will really hit the fan
Sadly I think this is what’s going to happen, most people won’t break the law willingly, but maybe once people start defaulting it will gain even more headlines but the Tories and their paymasters won5 give a fuck as the have their champagne Xmas.
