Regrouping of singers within the stadium

I completely agree with everything the OP is doing, he should be applauded and thanked for his efforts. Drums however, in my opinion, should not have a place in football. Having said that the OP didn't mention drums in his original post.
So start a thread about drums, and leave this one for what it was intended.

I wasn't the one who started banging on about drums on this thread :-).

The more posters comment on it the more it will detract from the original thread so just give it a rest eh and let's get back to the original topic?

My opinion, as everyone seems to have one, is that the OP's view and the Club's decision to have the away supporters over three tiers and so dissipate their togetherness and sound is a good one. Much better than moving them entirely, en masse to the third tier. I am one of those who were kicked out of the South Stand last season to make way for the expansion after being in the same seat since moving to the stadium. Now, in tier two of the Colin Bell, the difference in sound is amazing. At the back of SS2 all we could hear was the away supporters and the City corner singing section, it wasn't until we moved that we realised the SS lower sang too. Where we are now however we can hear both, but as we are further away, the corner section is very muted and both sing different songs at different times. Putting these together (if that's what in effect happens) will create cohesion and a greater wall of sound than a reduced lower tier away contingent. Chances are that we will be moving back into that stand but exactly where I've yet to decide.

So it's a thumbs up from me (as long as it's drum free ;-))

This is the kind of atmospheric we could bring to the etihad if the right people move to the new singing blocks next season. This is your chance to get involved, don't miss out or you'll regret it.

Drums are for rock concerts

But that's how the European crowds create atmosphere, with drums and someone leading the crowd with what song to sing

I disagree, they make noise not atmosphere. Atmosphere is created by the crowd responding to the ebb and flow of the game rather than just singing the same songs over and over again. I'm not a fan of the of the "European" style at all.
Me neither.

By all means bring the banners and flags to the stands; but please please no drums. After five minutes of the likes of Bayern, or anyone else, turning up at our place banging their drum (whether it be *bang bang bang bang* or *bang babangbang bang babangbang*, doesn't matter that it's not the Lancashire clubs' style of drumming) i've completely had enough of it and it proceeds to irritate the fuck out of me for the following 85minutes.

Fair enough if a stadium holds 90000 and a single stand holds 25000, then you'd need a drum to allow everyone to stay in time with a song. But for a stadium like ours where the tiers are tiny and small groups of singers will be packed together in a small area, a drum is really not needed at all.

I too do not like the European style atmosphere for our country. Unless it's someone out of this world like ARIS, most European clubs have fans just sing the same song with no real words (i hate chants that are just made up of "ole ole"s "woah woah"s and "der der der"s...utterly boring!) monotonously for about ten minutes and it doesn't represent the flow or the excitement of the game whatsoever. Now i wholly agree that our atmosphere needs a shake up, but 75% of that is away from any vocal/standing section and lies with fans all around the ground who need to get their voices out with all the "come on"s "go on"s "yyyeeesss!"s "fuck off"s "great defending, lad"s etc. Then the rest, granted, lies with the vocal/standing section providing songs that the rest of the crowd can hear, identify and have it sung for long enough (rather than just one or two quick blasts) to be able to join in with. But atmosphere isn't just about singing, it's all the little things with everyone being a little bit more vocal with them (you may never sing a song all game but still be part of a good atmosphere) as well.

Sort of. I think Bluemoon is very good with the way threads naturally take the odd little twist here and there but almost always remain true to the thread title overall. I use other forums, from things to rugby league to music, and the Policing of threads is too strict and i've always really liked that about this place that there is always a bit of leeway with topics.

If the club can gat away with not having different sets of fans in blocks that run horizontal with each other, that's what they'll do and I don't blame them. I personally could do without the away support gobbing and throwing things at the back of my head whilst tryin to watch the game. Cant believe some are even questioning this !.

Drums kill the atmosphere.

Whenever away support bring drums to the Etihad the home support simply shuts up as they can't get a word in edgeways due to the constant repetitive drone of the thing. Even the away support doesn't string any meaningful songs together. The same happens at away grounds when Blues often only sing once the drumming stops.

Leave these gimmicks to foreign clubs who don't know any better and lower league clubs who should know better.

My view is that City should ban all instruments from the Etihad "on health and safety grounds" ;-) for both home and away supporters, if I wanted to bring a box the size of a drum into the stadium and keep it in my seat area I would be refused citing health and safety (and insanity) reasons, should be the same for drums.

Now stop it off and let that be the end of it we are better than that.
If people dont support the op nowt will happen just stick to the thread the lad doesnt want to bang his head against a brick wall .as Ric said there are plenty other threads about atmosphere ect

There are many things to discuss if and when the club give the OK for the new singing section.

Structure of the block/s, social media, flags, banners, new chants, displays, funds, grouping of leaders/singers/individuals(?), drums, megaphone, organization, etc, etc.

From a personal point of view I don't want it to be a free for all, where the club offers seats on a ad-hoc basis. I'd like to see a structured seating roll out, where song starters/leaders are allocated seats in specific areas of the block to maximize the support and atmosphere.

Obviously the above isn't my remit, but I hope 1894 and the club look at all the issues that will create a proper and structured singing section.

PS. Watched United V Southampton yesterday. Thought their new singing block sounded decent, even though it's stuck in one of the quadrents in the top corner of the K-Stand. It certainly has improved the atmosphere at OT.

Email sent fully in support of this. Hopefully every member who supports this on blue moon will email. Maybe the thread should be pinned at the top as well.

Would it not be better to switch the position of the away fans, ie. Move them to where the south stand City fans are now. This would give City a larger group of singers with the east stand corner and the now switched south stand blues as one. This would prove a more vocal support , as one group rather than the two it is now. Plus the TV cameras would not be showing the away fans very often with you them tucked away out of shot.
p.s no drums we are City ...........drum free since 1894 !!
