Regrouping of singers within the stadium

I am pleased the club are trying to do something to increase the atmosphere and i hope it works.I was going to Maine Road since 1968 and even back then i remember people saying the atmosphere wasn't as good as other grounds and comparing the kippax to the kop etcetera.

It has certainly died a death though in the new stadium and it is hard to put a finger on why.Where i am in 119 in the South stand it can be a nightmare. There are a few who try and sing and others who stand in abject silence whatever is happening in the match. They never utter a shout or show any emotion i just don't understand it. I am pretty animated during a match and i often get disapproving stares by the silent majority, especially if they disagree with something i shout,at least i am getting involved and showing some passion!

I just don't get paying good money to go to a football match and remaining silent they may as well stay at home and watch it online or on the tv.

There's only so much the club can do really, the rest is down to us.
The fan base is changing, and there's far more families these days. That's not a bad thing per se, but the atmosphere's dying as a result.
Plus, I can't make out if we're a nervous bunch, or we're starting to get nonchalant, but if we've not scored within the first 20, the tension / frustration starts and the crowd go quiet.

I also think a small part is the acoustics, but there's no point in lying, most folks around me just don't sing or chant. Hard to criticise people as it's a personal choice, but there are times when we could do with the 12th man.

Another point is when we were rubbish on the field all we had to make the most of it was to sing and try and make something out of a bad situation. It was singing in the face of adversity. Now we are much improved that has gone.

If you want to get a message across just post onto my group on Facebook because we have over 22,000 members and you might get a lot more interest. It would be great to get everyone singing in certain areas of the ground and to turn us into the 12th man.

Its a case of each to their own.....have a look around the ground, there's a small pocket of fans in one corner&half the bottom tier in the South stand that makes any noise....if the ones that "remained silent" stayed at home and watch it online or on tv(as you put it) the place would be empty....stop worrying about what everyone else is doing...believe it or not...your in the minority...

Nobody can force anyone to do anything i just don't understand people who just sit or stand in silence, some of them i have to look twice to see if they are still alive. The place wouldn't be empty as people on the waiting list would take their place.

We are discussing the atmosphere or lack of it and how to improve it on this thread, therefore i am mentioning that there are a lot of silent fans in the ground, but i really don't give a shit either way what they do or don't do.I am in the minority on what?

Really respect what the 1894 group is doing, and full marks for trying to improve the atmosphere. I think part of it, in all honesty, is very simply the changing demographic in the west. Forty years ago if you looked around you, I guarantee you that, on the Kippax at least, more than half the people standing there were under thirty. Now, if you look around in the East Stand or CB stand, it's the opposite. They're all greyheads (i.e. like you). Putting it bluntly, less testoterone around. I was shouting my usual rubbish at the last match I managed to get to ("Pick your man up, Mangala, ffs!" etc.) and the bloke next to me turned and stared at me for a long moment. I chose to ignore him. But hey, it's a free country, and if people want to sit there as though they're watching tv, there's not much you or I can do about it.
What I think is almost worse than the atmosphere is the way the ground empties out immediately after the final whistle, and sometimes starts emptying out well before. This has been often mentioned. I just don't get it. What are people in such a hurry for? What's going on at home that's so vital? When players come right over to, say, the East Stand, to salute us, after a really terrific performance by the lads, and a stunning game — as happened several times last season — and the stand is already three-quarters empty, I honestly feel a bit ashamed. I almost feel like shouting down to Joe or Merlin, "Yeah, sorry about this. But you were great, lads!" But as I said, it's a free country, and people will do just what they want…
