Religion

religious doctrines certainly can be and that needs challenging and with paul simpson appearing to believe the bible literally then that is dangerous and extreme
I’ve done a scholarship course back in the day, as that’s what I wanted to be once upon a time (a secular one to confirm).

There’s nothing in the Christian part of the Bible, the New Testament, that worries me at all. The instructions are all about kindness and being loving to others. There’s some stories and things in the Old Testament that could be seen as a concern but Christians are actively told not to follow them and even for the Jews, those particularly worrying parts were only supposed to be for a temporary amount of time.

If Paul Simpson believes in Noah’s Ark then there’s fuck all we can do for him but I doubt he’s a danger to anyone, if he’s a Christian fundamentalist he’s more likely to sell his house and give the money to charity than anything harmful to others.

These threads always make me smile - the religion of atheism has its own band of hard core missionaries as zealous in their need to convert others to their view as any other fundamentalists.
So long as I get Xmas pudding tomorrow and a galaxy egg at Easter it's all good
I can’t speak for everyone but for me I’m more than happy, even interested to read their views (religious) because it’s mainly harmless.
The fucking nonsense from paulsimpson though, jeez louise, it’s batshit mate.

I long since gave up giving people the benefit of the doubt because they are blues - well, since I signed up to this forum and realised that our supporter base has its fair share of lunatics.
Whilst it’s admirable the stance you take I think people who believe in extremities such as taking the bible literally are very dangerous individuals.
I object to what he has to say because it’s fucking mental.
If he was trying to convert me rather than answer questions or provide explanations I would agree, but he isn't. At least we can have a go at his religion you cannot say the same about Islam or Judaism.

If that's all that makes you happy eergh OK

(No beer, blow jobs or anything else beginning with b ?)

paulsimpsons posts are the religious equivalent of putting a room full of monkeys in a room full of typewriters scenario aren’t they.. haha! Fuckinell!
While Mr Simpson is clearly a religious extremist nutjob, your analogy is way off the mark. The infinite monkey theorem, as it's known, states that a number of monkeys left to hit typewriter keys for an infinite amount of time will eventually accurately reproduce every literary work ever written. It seeks to demonstrate that any sequence of events which has a non-zero probability of happening, at least as long as it hasn't occurred, will almost certainly eventually occur. You're welcome.

suggest you reread revelations then mate and point out the kindness and loving to me

despite some good stuff even the 4 gospels have their fair share of the not so good

think you are underegging the old testament its chock full of nasties

I heard a comedian recently laughing about the Book of Mormon.

A bunch of Mormons were outside the theatre when he came out and said if you like what you see please read our leaflet. They were incredibly polite and nice to everyone, leaving a theatre openly mocking their beliefs (which are crackers to be fair).

The comedian said imagine if you had a similar production for another religion and what would happen. Well we don’t need to imagine, it happened at a satirical magazine in Paris.

Yeah, my post wasn’t as complex as that, just a way of saying that his posts look like they’ve been written by monkeys with typewriters with too much time on their hairy hands.
Thanks :-)

Revelations, if I remember correctly, is more about what’s going to happen to you after you die, it’s not giving instructions to Christians be harmful now. As a secular society we need to worry about risks now, not what people believe will happen after death.

The Old Testament is full of some nasty parts you’re correct, but my point that Christians aren’t to follow them is key, they’re instructed in Corinthians to not even circumcise themselves if they aren’t part of that tradition.

Thing is though, come the day of Reckoning you'll be getting deep anal fiery poker action while he's sat at the right hand of the lord in heaven snorting coke off prozzies arses. At that point I'm not sure either of you will care about lions shagging tigers.

Yeah but I’m doing all the things now that he has to wait to get into heaven for so who’s the daft one eh?? Haha!

you are missing the point its full of nasty shit why would anyone want to follow and believe it, you cant just cherry pick the bits you want and ignore the bad bits

Your paying £100 per gram once a week with some skank. He's on unlimited freebies for eternity - worth the wait?

Well you’d have to ask someone who does, why they do.

But it isn’t “full” or nasty shit, parts of the Old Testament have nasty shit in them but the Bible is many books, not one and has many different authors with different contexts and stories. And Christians are instructed to stick to the Gospels in Paul’s Letters, that’s why they “cherry pick”, it’s part of Christian doctrine to follow one part.
