For over 25 years rag players have been able to kick, punch, and elbow the opposition free in the knowledge that no ref will ever apply the letter of the law to a scum player for fear of reprisals. not one person in the football world, un-connected with united had thought he shouldn't be banned. even united fans on redcafe were saying he was out of order and should have been sent off. this is getting boring now. the f.a. have shown what a spineless load of bastards they are once again. it's clear that it doesn't matter what you've done, it's who you are that matters.

I don't really think you can make a big comparison with the Ben Thatcher incedent. For a start, didn't Mendes need oxygen after what Thatcher did? The consequences of that could have been far more serious than what Rooney did.

I can't get my head round this decision - it was a fvckin blatant assault.He ran into the player lifted his arm and threw the elbow into his face.Clattenburg is a cnut,he states he has reviewed the incident and feels he dealt with it appropriately.......

I'm livid and rapidly losing my love for this game.

Presumably Clattenburg has said he saw it fully and dealt with it appropriately at the time. Given the video evidence, surely that means he should be sacked for gross incompetence and dereliction of duty.

I think this is exactly what has happened. I expect Clattenburg will now be referring in the lower leagues for a couple of games.
