Rewriting of History - Part II

It's blatantly obvious that MH is here to stay until the end of the season so we may as well support him. However, I believe that he's a shit manager whose teams play shit football and that we'll be lucky to finish top half this season. If this is how it pans out then I've no doubt that the owners will look to replace him next Summer.

Having said this, I'd like nothing more than for him to prove me wrong and for us to end up qualifying for Europe. Feel free to remember this post & to call me on it if he proves to be a success. I will gladly eat humble pie should this situation arise :-)

No I am saying Ferguson and Clough's records are second to none, I do believe that Hughes's education echoes that of O,Neill, and lets face it Villa and Forest are nowhere near as successfull as us in europe, unless you forget a couple of League Championships and 3 European Cups.

Didn't make Ince, Keane, Bruce etc top managers.

Hughes could not possibly have learnt anything under Venables and Ferguson, managing a national football side, or keeping Blackburn in the top half of the League.

He average 4 points a season better than his predecessor at Blackburn, and his second and third seasons were worse than his first. As for Wales, spare me.

Additionally he played for Wales in their Golden Generation, alongside, Giggs Rush Speed Ratcliffe Saunders and Southall, he ended up playing centre mid field, because no one was available as playmaker (giggs and Speed were too in experienced) and also on occasion as their stopper in midfield.

Does that make you a good manager?

No I am certain as you are that Hughes has had a crap education and should be dispensed with immediatly.

I've never said he has had a crap education, I've said that he has had crap results and performances since becoming manager. And that's all I'm worried about.

You've always been a fairly rational poster on here moomba, but you seem in danger of slipping into a trap where you become so preoccupied with your hatred of Hughes it starts to cloud your every judgement of anything we do as a club. I've no love for Hughes, but our history of sacking managers on a whim has hardly served us well. Surely he deserves at least a season in charge?! Failing that, who do you suggest replacing him with right now?

Rijkaard, Mancini are a couple that could be convinced.

I'm not arguing for his immediate sacking anyway (although it would be a nice new years present), I just don't get how people can consistently argue anything other than the fact that he has done a pretty poor job so far.

And I don't get anyone can say with certainty that he will be the man for the job longer term than this season, for me he has a lot of improving to do to be even considered competent enough to do the job beyond this season.

Sparta Rotterdam (2001–2002)
During the 2001–02 season, he became manager of Sparta Rotterdam in the Dutch Eredivisie, the oldest professional team in the country. Rijkaard enjoyed the down-to-earth atmosphere, although Under his leadership, the club was relegated to the first division for the first time in its history, and he was fired as a consequence.

maybe barcelona where not such a bad team to take over,
I'd say the team he inherited where a little better than city.

And I'd say our current squad is a bit better than Sparta Rotterdam.

Rijkaard had a disappointing start at Barcelona that saw some sections of the club's fans call for his resignation, and he drew flak from the media when the team lost to Real Madrid in December 2003.[3] Rijkaard's resilience won through and from 2004 onwards, he achieved a turnaround.

And if I recall correctly, had a pretty poor start to his tenure as Barca manager. Until about Christmas I think, and then turned it around. His board, and fans, stood by him and he led them to the Champions League you talk about. Food for thought.

Until the past few weeks I've argued that we still have the chance to get a UEFA Cup spot, so I'm certainly not ruling out the possibility that we will improve this season. I am worried about the "damage" he might do to the club in the next month, but I guess time will tell on that.

And like I said, I am not arguing against anyone who thinks he should be given until the end of the year to get things right. But I will happily refute any suggestions that we have not underperformed in the first half of the year.

Haha, I'm too tired to get bogged down in the semantics of it. You've repeatedly said you don't want his as manager, which I take as being a mandate for wanting him sacked. I'm not even vindicating full on support for him as the results have been shite; just a more open minded approach is all I ask. Criticism when we do bad, compliments when we do well. That kind of thing. You have to be balanced, otherwise you lose all validity.

I'm sure we all agree we are under performing, but lets not panic just yet.

I suspect you can't be bothered (I certainly can't) but I have given him praise on a number of occasions so far this season. I also said until recently that it would be silly to sack him (voted yes to keeping him on in both polls), but for me we really needed to qualify for Europe for him to keep his job. On the basis that we've blown that chance I'm not going to lose any sleep if he gets the arse tomorrow.

And from a purely personal basis, the day he gets the sack will be a happy day in the moomba household, I might even raise a glass or two to celebrate.

And just to prove I'm not lying

<a class="postlink" href="http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=87722&hilit=twat" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.bluemoon-mcfc.co.uk/forum/vi ... hilit=twat</a>

Hughes is doing well so far, but remains a twat.

Can't be any fairer than that. ;)

Haha, yeah you're right that I too can't be bothered going back through previous messages! Not after an argument or owt, just seems that you've become preoccupied by your feelings against the manager. If we win, seems it's despite him if we lose, it's because of him. Like I said, rationality is all I'm after.

Not really true. After the Everton game I was one of the few that didn't blame the manager. After the Racing match I was full of praise for the way we went about the group stages. Even the Blackburn game I posted that he deserved credit for the Sturridge/Caicedo sub (while being condemned to burn in hell for the Vass/Elano sub).

But generally when we lose it's not too hard to find a gripe, and he's given me plenty of ammunition in recent months.

Ric, Moomba, lastmanback and all who have contributed to this thread, a question..

if we finish mid-table and don't win the Uefa cup would you have him gone and take Jose for the start of next season?

In a second, maybe even half a second.

don't expect to win uefa and we will finnish top 8, so not a good reason
to sack a manager. jose ain't coming, no point in fantasying. not big enough
profile for the special one, plus would not risk his reputation coming to smaller
club when he can choose the best in the world to manage.
