Richard Dunne retires

Good luck Dunnie. My favourite player from the Pierce era.
A cracking and honest player for City. Derided for rare mistakes but on the whole he was extremely robust, made life difficult for opponents and was deceptively quick. Good luck Dunney for future endeavours.

Dunie gave his all and busted a gut for City every game, shame some of our current mega bucks stars can not be arsed to do the same.
As previous posters have mentioned his performances in the two Sven Derby's were awesome.
A true blue hero

Was our captain through some tough times and i am proud of the shift he put in for city. As has been said he gave his all, marked some greats out of the game and will be a proud part of our history. Would have loved him to have won some silver with us.

Fond memories of when we first signed him and he was still on the turps and carrying a few extra kegs. He would bomb it down the wing, still rapid but you'd see the beer coming out of his sweat.

Why is this thread in the General Football Forum?

One of our most well loved captains, and a great club servant retiring from the game, surely deserves to be in the main forum.

Good luck Dunney lad! Those of us that were there won't forget your efforts!

Loved him at City. Huge heart, big noggin and like others have said he was there for us times were bleak. Best of luck Dunney!

He was the beating heart of our side when we had no resources. He gave his all and was a pleasure to watch.

Very much this, I hope we get to see Dunnie at the Etihad in some capacity in the coming years even if he is just taking in a match.

The Dunnie Monster's two best performances for City came in the same season against the same opponents, as far as I'm concerned.

And that was during 2007/8, under Sven in the derbies. The first time we'd done the double for many - about 35 - years.

Richard Dunne - and Micah Richards - were immense both at CMS and the swamp and our victories in those two games were due to how well those two played, both at centre-back, than any other factor.

Surely dunnie's best performance was as 'hutch' to mark kennedy's starsky when they got bollocked for sliding across that police woman's car bonnet in Dublin
