Richard Dunne

"Mr Acton28, if I ever meet up with you I will buy you a pint. I couldn't have put it better myself."

Same for me Sir ;0).

Dunney was, and always will be a City legend, he sums up just what a club captain should be on and off the pitch, wore the shirt with pride and never gave less than 100%.

I would be delighted if we found a role for him at the club, or wish him well wherever he goes.

Dunne's own goals often stemmed from the fact he was trying to stretch a scoop away certain goals. He gave his all.

The red cards were again, him giving his all, not dirty and rearly slow. Kompany's spirit is in the same vein.

Dunney was, and will always remain a class City Legend - that many Player of The Season (4), MOTM awards, and that much commitment from 2000-2009 is rarely seen at Premier league levels. He played numerous times whilst injured. He carried on if his boots fell off. He wore the Captain's band looked unchallenged for that role for a long time.

He cost us £3 million. Absoulte snip compared to Charvet, Distin and Howey. He was a big step up from the superb players Edghill and Morrison. Has there been a better defender for Eire?

Garry Cook really angered me when he said, " Richard Dunne doesn’t roll off the tongue in Beijing." It made me feel like City don't need grafters and battlers any more.

I'd have him back in a shot to play a supportive role to our squad and if the lad wants to coach, City should make for a venue of choice.

I thought Dunne would be the first player in my lifetime to reach and deserve a Testimonial for a decade of footy at City. Shame. He deserved that.

Mr Acton28, if I ever meet up with you I will buy you a pint. I couldn't have put it better myself. You have said most of the things I still feel about Dunnie, I would have him back tomorrow like a shot, he earned his legend role and apart from Zab, Vinnie, Hart and Micah the present squad have to work a lot harder to get even halfway to the regard I have for the Dunnie Monster. :-)

Too many short sighted fans nowadays forgetting who brightened our rise from lower leagues to stability and mediocrity to the current status.

Dunne, if English would be applauded by all. But he is Irish and a niche supported player. Superb player. If ever there was a player in need of backing, it was him, he could easily have slid off rails and done a Joey barton, but no, he got on with the job. My Dad compares him to Booth & Donachie - and from videos I can see why. Dunne was a polished Gerry Gow. My Grandad when he was a round said he reminded him of Ewing and Doyle.

Is Micah Richards the closet player to Dunne for appearances made by a current player?

You must be a very young fan.
I am an old fart fan..... with a failing memory. But unless this has gone to another level, I think the chronology needs a review young man.
Tommy Booth was indeed a fine Center back, and Willie Donachie was one of our best ever left backs. But big Mike Doyle (GRHS) was a center back at about the same time as Tommy. In fact your man Google will probably tell you he played on after Boothy.
Glad to hear youngsters talk about the legends though.

Nowt against him. But it kinda makes me chuckle the way he is hero worshipped as some kind of model pro. And used as some sort of barometer that the current players should aspire to when he used to turn up to training pissed more often than he did sober.

Did some cockney named Mark give you this info?

If that's supposed to mean something to me, it doesn't.

Was a stupid young lad when he joined us, with some help (and a big kick up the arse) turned himself around and became a true legend at the club.

Played with passion and wasnt afraid to get proper stuck in (which is why he ended up with loads of red cards!). Good old fashioned defender, good luck to him and hope he gets his injuries sorted and back to playing.

Somebody is gonna get one hell of a defender on a free this summer.

I loved him too! He was great on his day, had a few off days but in that City side who didn't!

Top player, should never have gone, shoucld have at least gone into the backroom coaching staff
What?
When he was 29?

A good centre-back who suited our club at the time perfectly. He was definitely at his best when defending against wave after wave of attacks. The best centre-backs however, are the ones who can go 30 minutes or more with doing barely anything but then being prepared to make the crucial interception, block or tackle when all of a sudden you're under pressure. Dunne wasn't one of those players IMO. It was the right time for him to go.

I loved Dunney played with passion, which some players could have had during this season (not Dunney's overall skill set just his passion)

The first game I went to at COMS was Man City vs Norwich which finished 1-1 with Willo Flood scoring for us and McManaman passed him the ball when he just lost his right boot in a tackle - he went on to hoof the ball forward in just his sock and had to be substituted because he'd knackered his foot.

That's why we love him.

People having a pop at Richard Dunne on here only confirms that most of you don't have a clue where we have come from and what we are today.

Any reason why that can't be us? Is he still looking for first team football? I'd love to have him back in the role Kolo played this season.
