If Clichy and Kolarov are fit I don't see Richards getting a look in for the Community Shield ... Clichy did a good job a RB in pre-season and the times when I saw Richards come on for him in was a stark contrast in how much worse we looked down that side defensively and offensively ..... Clichy's crosses were decent with his right foot as well ... I ready stuff in the past saying he was predominantly right-footed when he was younger I dunno if there's any truth in it but it's really useful for the squad that he can play on either side and I think people underrate him, he came in for some stick last season but had a lot of niggly injuries ...

Yeah i read the same thing about Clichy. He was right footed as a kid but his dad made him use his left all the time because there were much less left footed players so he had more chance of making it. Not a bad shout really from Clichy Sr.

Has to agree to a wage cut though - will he?

Poyet said earlier that Sunderland are "very, very close" to a new signing. Many Mackems figured he meant Zuculini on loan.

Telegraph: Sunderland are interested in adding Micah Richards (26) to their group of former Blues, with City asking £5m for the right-back.

That would mean they would have taken Pantilimon (he was on a free, though), Rodwell, Richards and Zuculini (loan) from us this summer.

They'll still beat us next season even with half our squad playing for them..

Id still keep Richards. He is a better option at centre half than Boyata who is just awful and can cover right back as well. His only problem is his injury record but he looked ok after coming on yesterday...certainly better option than clichy at right back.

He is at best 3rd choice right back and 4th choice centre back on wages which are ridiculous for his position in the squad.

I would have taken a fiver never mind £5 million

He played 10 games last season

bayern at home - lost 3-1
Bayern away - losing 2-0 when he came off for zaba, we won 3-2
Watford at home - losing 2-0 when he came off for zaba, we won 4-2
Sunderland away - lost 1-0
Wigan at home - lost 2-1

Doesnt make great reading

No it doesnt make great reading but there where 10 other players playing with him in those games so for them too it doesnt make great reading either. I think we can say with injuries to Kompany and Nasty our defence was basically a shambles for a long time with little or no long term pairing in defence.

How about we get rid of Nasty and Boyata and try Richards out as a CB for cup games.
