Rico Lewis | Set to sign a new 5-year contract (pg33)

I always find it interesting when folks point out he struggles in games in which everyone struggles.

Is this how folks analyze Gvardiol, Gundo, Kev, Phil, Haaland John, Ruben, Bernardo or Kyle?

Did i miss how those guys excelled when we were under heavy pressure or off our game?

Did Gvardiol not give up multiple goals under pressure? did Phil not suck and give up a goal when we werent on top? Was Kev not a mess in the games we couldn't control? Did Dias not struggle with Mbappe's pace in a game when we were shit?

So what are people really saying when pointing out the obvious. That our players struggle when we are not on top? ALL OF THEM!

Constantly bringing it up as if its unique to Rico is weird to me.

I judge him exactly how i judge others. How is
he when we are purring? He is fantastic! And that's all i can say.
He is totally out of his depth in a physical manner which is ok when you are in control more than you are not. It's as simple as that. You didn't need to write a dissertation.

He's a 20 year old kid, & he looked comfortably within his depth against Wolves to me...

Did you even read what I wrote? He's a major asset when the game is played on his terms aka on the ball, in control. If called upon defensively, he's going to get exposed. This is not a controversial take, it's not a dig, it's just how it is. Surely no one actually thinks he's a good defender?

He’s lot better than Edghill.
is he? only joking. Bit gutted we did not haggle on this one see where we could have got them to. I'd have been happy with the reported 25 million. Would have been a nice chunk towards a new right back that would improve the team.

Mate, he defended as well as any other defender against Wolves & covered more positions than anyone else. He played the most complex multi-positional role on Saturday & excelled.

He's a 20 year old England international City fan with the heart of a lion. If he's showing these attributes at this age & continues to improve & develop, imagine what he'll be like in his mid-20s?

He's struggled at times previously because of his size & stature, but let's look at the present hey. What defensive criticisms do you have based on his display against Wolves on Saturday?

good outcome, we need youth players around even in bench/utility role. we would need to spend 40m to replace him and listen to cry due to lack of playing time etc. or we spent more on players who couldnt even do what Lewis doing like Phillips.

he doesnt really have a position he excels at, but can be thrown in in various roles and he tries his best. he will also improve as he has the right mentality.

Squad player at best for me, I know he loves the club and tries his hardest every game, but I’d prefer we buy an out an out RB.

Nothing against him i just don't think he's good enough to be s starter in any of the top 4 teams, as a squad player maybe he's worth keeping around, he's no right back and he's behind so many in midfield so if he starts 10 league games i'd be suprised.
Lol, prepare to be surprised

There are more ways of defending than crunching tackles and giving away free kicks. But yes his physicality is an issue at present.

We lost control of the right side when he got replaced last weekend. He doesn't just thrive in a functioning possession side, he facilitates it.

I'm certain he's going to bulk up slightly anyway. Males put in a fair bit of muscle 21-23. Phil isn't huge but looks at him now compared to 4-5 years ago. After 3 years of playing senior football whilst he's slight, if he does put on man weight he'll take a big jump.

We lost control before Lewis was subbed off, having 35% possession in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half against Wolves of all teams.

He did well, but we need a better RB in the big games for sure.

Leroy Sane says hello

Nice, I'd never sell Lewis. He might never be good enough to be a starter but he'll always be a great backup (which you always need). Also, he's English which counts for a homegrown quota. I wish we kept McAtee as well for the same reasons but thankfully we have a buy-back option in case he turns into next Palmer xd
No one looked good last year and the team fell apart so he gets a pass . Too young to sell and great potential . He is versatile and , with the best coach in the world , is going to find his best position , most likely midfield . Will be getting stronger as he matures too and is an intelligent player with the selfless heart of a lion. If he was playing down the road he'd be being hailed as The Second Coming .. probably a good thing he's under the radar with us .

Well I think he will be our Neville. Not good enough but a solid squad player years to come and also a reason now for the board not to go for a RB. Having 2 fullbacks would be a disgrace for the board.
Yeah, fair point.

I can't believe we haven't still moved for a RB.
