The Police have been awful.
I think that if the police had gone in heavy handed then many more people would have jumped in. Already the 'reason' for the riots in London has no relationship with them elsewhere but getting heavy will make martyrs out of the looters.
Fast tracking the kids they have arrested and letting everybody see the consequences will stop the looting.
Mob opinion changes very easily and it could turn in favour of the rioters very quickly.
Bollocks! The vast majority of the country want to see the police unleashed, and some real justice

People who set fire to shops with flats above them should be charged with attempted murder and jailed for life.

Me too, I'm as angry at how pathetic the response from our leaders has been as the scum doing all this. This is the result of political correctness gone too far, the police are helpless. If they had stun guns or real weapons and took one of those parasites down, most of the others would run home with their tail between their legs.
I don't think it has anything to do with political correctness. I've seen the UK police regular baton charge large groups. Football corwds, protests, etc. It is a tactic that is used dozens of times every year and no-one kicks up a fuss unless someone like Tomlinson is an innocent caught up in it. And even then it doesn't mean they remove this tactic next time something is kicking off.
This is all horrendously strange. The police all over the country are adopting a 'do what you want' tactic. At odds with every other time they have policed serious disorder.
Can't they see that it exactly these tactics which have encouraged, no, caused, copycats from scrotes everywhere.
There is nothing going through their mind other than 'they are allowing us to get away with this'.
I am growing increasingly suspicious but even with my mindset I still find it hard to believe that the policing of this has been deliberately handled so badly.
But, FFS, if I asked 100 people where they would station large numbers of troops in the event of forthcoming looting in Manchester every single person would say Market St, The Arndale, St Anne's Sq.
There is no conceivable explanation for this not being the thought of the coppers other than they deliberately want to see or are being order to see the whole country trashed without interference.

You've quoted that degenerate for comment on what is a symptom of a much greater political and social issue?
Many of these kids have no future. They're bitter, and they resent what they've been left to inherit from our ruling classes.
Disaffected youth.
Products of our state schools and crumbling, deprived estates.
Nick Clegg and David Cameron live and were raised in an idyllic bubble, both were privately schooled at Eton.
What right do they have to pass judgement on these kids? They have no understanding of the environment they grew up in, the environment that they'll be condemned to for the rest of their lives. The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen in this country and as a result many of these kids are getting restless.
And now, it appears the police were, quite predictably, lying about the circumstances of Mark Duggan's death. He didn't fire at them as they claimed, but he was still shot dead.
I won't condone the looting of small businesses or the cases of violence against other members of the public, but I will say, that if I was a little younger, I'd be out rioting with them.
Big corporations, the police - fair game.
