Rishi Sunak

One which fails to satisfy certain criteria in relation to future earnings and employment outcomes. Doesn’t really matter what the degree subject is.
The predominant point of doing a degree, any degree, should be students moving away from doing work they are spoon fed to starting to think more creatively for themselves. As a result, it is impossible to measure this in terms of future earning and employment outcomes. There are a lot of people who don't see the importance of humanities degrees as they don't lead to a specific job or income, but having an educated population who can think for themselves and be creative is massively important for our economy.

That's pretty nonsensical. Not everyone who does the same degree goes on to earn a set amount. And most degrees aren't directly linked a set career path.

A better educated society, in whatever field, can only be a good thing. It's utterly imbecilic to think that restricting education opportunities is a positive.

Yeah. That bit where he blamed the NHS waiting lists being higher today on Industrial Action. That was dead good that bit. Bravo, Rishi.

And continuing the 40 new hospitals lie. Aye, he played a blinder did old Rish.
Industrial action has caused waiting lists to go up. It’s a fact, unfortunately.

It’s about raising standards across universities, and not allowing universities offering very poor quality degrees to continue to profit from government funding that could be better directed elsewhere. It’s not as if entire degree subjects will disappear from UK universities.

There’s an opportunity cost involved with every pound of public expenditure. Strangely enough I think there are better ways to spend this money than university courses which offer very little.

It’s good to see this is so important to you, can we now look at how we can get our impoverished having a chance of making it there.

I agree with all of this however when around half of all uni graduates regret going to university and 30% don’t go on to highly skilled employment it’s worth asking the question. Although I don’t think that question is “is this degree valuable?” - it should be “is university right for you?”. The only people who can answer that are the prospective students - and if they don’t apply in sufficient numbers for specific courses then they’ll cease to exist.

We should be restructuring secondary school education and stop thinking the only learning a person should aspire to acquire is of an academic nature.
