Hard not to get in a nonsensical pickle with stuff like this, smoking and vaping shunned but smoking cannabis is on the up. I can understand trying to get rid of all of them or keeping all of them. But picking and choosing which should and shouldn't be banned don't make a lot of sense.

I suspect it’s for use later on.

Can just see Boris’s child blathering as opposition Tory leader in 2035 wittering on about the Tories banning smoking because they’re the party of healthcare.

On the news smoking costs the NHS 3bn a year but brings in 10bn in tax, but(guessing shit here we come) it's predicted it costs business 17bn a year. Does it fuck.

Anyhow let's look at super processed food that's causes cancer, other food that causes diabetes, obesity and heart problems. What about the air we breathe and the shite in that.

Absolute bollocks and unless I have read it wrong some ages can smoke and some can't?

Sounds practical.

Isn’t it just trying to remove tobacco products, rather than banning it altogether?

The tax angle is an interesting one though.

I don’t disagree with your sentiment and would look at making cheap food less unhealthy too.

The age thing just means anyone born in 2009 onwards should never get access to tobacco products. Should being the operative word.

Would that work in practice?
Imagine someone born in 2010 going into a shop in 2040 and asking for a pack of cigs and being told they can't because they aren't old enough.

It wouldn’t be about their age then and if it had worked, they wouldn’t want to go and buy them.

Under the plan, they would never be able to buy cigarettes ever.

Whether it works in real life, we shall either see or we won’t as it‘ll likely get shelved like most of these schemes.

do you honestly think that a 30 year old in 2040 who has no peers who smoke and all his elderly relative who smoked and are dead due to smoking related illnesses will go to a shop because they think the thing they really need to do is buy a pack of cigs @£25 - £30 by then? Also bear in mind they will be much harder to come by in those circumstances - I can't see supermarkets keeping their ciggie counters open as tumbleweed blows through waiting for the occasional customer.

It's an odd concept in the future 63 year old puffing away 62 year old old says give us a fag mate, sorry laddy you're too young.
