Rishi Sunak

It’s actually a derivation of the letter T. It was started in the USA and someone used to write down the letter T next to people who had stated they would be ‘totally abstemious‘ and therefore practice ‘temperance totally‘.
They thus became known as T Totalers or teetotal as it was then spelt.
There is a conflicting view that the term originated in Preston, Lancashire which was where the Temperance movement was founded.

Indeed. It's gone under the radar that the furlough scheme was actually replacing rich people's luxury spending rather than middle/ working class wages. I'm really concerned that when starmer gets in in two years he'll be left with such a mess that he'll fail and it will open the door to facism like 30's Germany. Hopefully I'm wrong/mad etc.

I saw Farage having a cinnamon latte in a Costa once too. Give it a few years, he’ll be supporting Eddie Izzard.

Ha - I was thinking about this the other day, did Coppell do like 30 days? Liz Truss did more, but if your minus the mourning period for QEII it was about the same.

Truss = Fat Sam - if you think about it from an England point of view!
I left out Phil Neal who also did a truss- length stint.

Change the names and minor circumstances, and you have, albeit to a lesser degree in the UK, MAGA America and the Republican Party!

Real conservatives and historical Republicans abhor what they are seeing from the MAGA Extremes in “their party,” but it is a loose amalgam, at best, and more of an Anti-Democratic Party at this point.

Sadly, though, it is built on a foundation of lies and tropes that doesn’t hold up to any serious examination, which means it will fail spectacularly in the cold harsh light of day. The questions then become “How?“ and “Who gets hurt?” I’m not looking forward to finding out those answers.
I don't confess to having a great understanding of politics in the USA, but I've seen some documentaries from respected British journalists covering the mid term elections, and I've found their reports quite shocking.

So many people were being interviwed at rallies and conventions thinking a civil war was about to break out, with accustations of fake news and fixed elections being promoted by the speakers on stage fuelling the fire, it didn't promote a country at ease with itself.

On this side of the pond, it came across as a confused mess with frightening consequences. I don't know how representative those reports were but is that take on the situation, that civil war could break out, a real concern for you?

If something even remotely to a civil war looked likely more than have of these MAGA grifters will run for the hills. Any hint of that would make the Patriot Act look like child’s play too but I highly doubt it happens.

As I said in a prior thread if the US survived desegregation I think the MAGA invasion will pass.
