Can't agree at all, that there was anything wrong with his effort.

He is trying to 'fit in' but also trying to make his mark.

Unfortunately that is currently manifesting itself as a bunch of uninspired passes followed by cutting inside & trying to curl a shot into the top left corner.

He's much better than that.

Do you think he’s physically and mentally strong enough to cut it, mate?

Mentally: Ive no idea about that side of him tbh.

Physically, he's well ahead of where David Silva was when he first arrived but, as with Gundogan & probably Zinchenko too, he is going to have to play flat out & get stuck in, without the ball, rather than just moving into position & being ineffective. When they do that, they are different players.

If the fans saw Mahrez playing with Bernardo's attitude, they would get on his side & the rest would probably fall into place imo. He's a genius level talent.

Whether he has that in his locker, I don't know, but I know Sergio used to be a lazy **** without the ball & now isn't.

Edit: it's fighting rather than running effort, I think I'm trying to describe

He has a huge opportunity to stamp his mark as we're entering the business end of the season and whilst the fixtures start to mount up. Plenty of opportunities to show his worth and he should view this period as a challenge to reaffirm his reputation before we enter next season.

Pep wants players that rise to the challenge, not drop their heads and sulk, which I have a feeling is influencing why we haven't seen as much of him lately. We need the £60m POTY Mahrez in the coming months... I feel we're just waiting for that one game where it suddenly clicks for him and I hope that is the case, as he was the sort of investment you expect instant impact from.

Until he stops trying to prove how good he is with being selfish Pep wont pick him.

That's the thinig - he has so much natural ability that if he were to play within the team and use it, it would benefit not only him but the rest of our forward line. He's a very creative player but all too often it seems he is only worried about how he can cut back to get a shot off.

That being said, not writing him off yet at all. I'd be shocked if he didn't start against Newport, and after that the fixtures start coming thick and fast again. He'll get his opportunities; let's hope he takes them.

He did absolutely nothing to make a case for more playing time when he came on today. His form has nosedived as the season has progressed and I would question if he has what it takes to become a regular in our team.
On the contrary, I think his form has stated the same. Others have just stepped it up a notch. Sterling, Bernado, Gundogan and Debryune have reved it up a notch. Dihno has been consistent. Sane and Dave have dropped off a bit, but Riyad has pretty much loomed like a new signing. And that kind of performance won't get you lots of time on teams like this.

I expect a start in the FA cup. Lets see how he holds up.

As talented as Bernado in my opinion. Similar levels of ball control by both. Top 5 in the league. Similar speed. Mahrez is probably a better dribbler. So yeah, the potential for greatness is there.
