Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

I found his goal the epitome of greed as it happens, Pep would of taken more from him squaring it to Phil for the Hat trick than the blast into the goal. It’s kind of a metaphor for his time here!

Pep may have preferred that option but I suspect that Mahrez was anxious to score in order to boost his own self confidence . Especially if he reads this forum.

Yeah bad luck for Phil there, I'm 99% sure every other forward in the squad would have given him a hat trick.

Others may disagree, but I am honestly certain that had Sergio been playing, and he was in a bad run of form searching for a goal with the ball at his feet in that exact same position (as the last kick of the game, us already leading 3-1), he would have still tried to square it to Phil for his hat trick.

As much as Aguero can be slightly greedy at times, he really does think about these sorts of things (the square for Jesus in the Liverpool match last season, as well as the Bernardo and Sterling assists this season being examples).

I was disappointed (though, not surprised) Riyad decided to go himself. Although it is good to see him score, like @Zin 'messiah' Zimmer, I thought it summed up his performance, and that’s not really a compliment, as he was showing throughout that he only wanted to make something happen for himself (as others have said, to boost his own confidence and make a case to start more).

He has the talent (and experience) to be an ‘elite’ playmaker but his decision-making and selfishness is very frustrating at times. I know he has a fair few assists to his name this season but, if you have watched all of the minutes he has played, he could easily have twice as many by now if he was less greedy in the decisive moments (maybe even more as he might start more often, a very large net gain for the team as a whole).

Laporte: "Riyad, apart from being a great footballer, he's a friend. I get on very well with him. He always deals damage to the defences he comes up against... He's a fantastic footballer and he's going to offer so much for the team this season."

Wonder if Pep will start him before we play Swansea in the cup. Would it be crazy to try him in the middle where Silva operates usually? For me on the wings Mahrez is not agressive enough.

Right now with the alternatives we've got it would be crazy to try him centrally.

So you think there are players playing worse than Mahrez that are continually getting more playing time and starts than he is do you? That's an interesting concept? You can't have it both ways.

No I didn't actually say that at all did I? What I said was that he would come into his own at some point and play a important part in the season.

Well you didn't say that but logically you implied it.

Whether he comes into his own at some point is a moot point to your argument.

Riyad Mahrez came off the bench to score City's third and secure the trophy in the 2019 Champions League final...

Save this post.

;)

I am losing my patience with him but I do have a feeling that he’s going to score an important goal for us at some point this season
