Yeah, there's been a few sneak previews of Mahrez's creative ability, particularly in pre-season. I fancy him to remain on the wing for the foreseeable future but I also think Pep will start to experiment even more next season.

He didn't have the best season but he was never going to diplace Raheem or Bernardo on current form anyway.
We've been strugling to give Sane and Jesus adequate playing time as it is so his lack of form may well be a blessing in disguise.

Calling him an 8 is a bit much but I agree that Mahrez isn't a typical winger. Not in a pinned to the touchline sense anyway, which is what Pep demands.
I don't think he thrives when his main purpose is to square people up from out wide. For that you need serious pace to go with the trickery.
Unless you're Bernardo but that's another matter entirely.

Clearly a good player but as yet has been unable to adapt to the demands of playing in this team on a consistent basis. And it IS very different to playing for Leicester, even a Leicester that won the league title.

Hopefully it will “click” next season, but the concerning thing has been the poor decision making on a regular basis. A lot of low-percentage shooting, aimless crosses into an empty box, not choosing simple passes when they’re on.

Fingers crossed he’s just been trying too hard to impress. I think if we bring in a big money signing or two in the summer the pressure might be off him a little and he can relax. Would love to see him score in the FA Cup Final, would lift his standing with the fans a bit.
