Pep showed Deco, Ronaldinho & Eto'O the door at Barcelona so I doubt very much that he will hesitate on Mahrez. Truth is, I believe he has failed to live up to expectations anyway and that there is a degree of buyer's remorse with him despite not being a poor acquisition. Riyad simply hasn't been the protagonist enough when given opportunities to be decisive.
Considering his absence in the run of biggest matches tells you quite a bit about how much trust Pep has in him. The right offer/suitor comes in, would be a good move for all involved to part ways IMO - even across town to United
Agree with this - Concerning the media leak saying he's unhappy, I wouldn't expect him to be so not much of a scoop. He has confidence in his own ability which is needed at the top level but he really doesn't graft enough, as others have said stark contrast to Bernardo's situation last year. Secondly, he really could not be moved into a deeper more creative role as some have suggested unless he understands about the best time to move the ball. At Leicester he often just picked the ball up and kept it as he was expected to be the one player that could do something. With us Pep likes players to move the ball quickly and create tempo and space with short sharp passing - not a strength of Mahrez. I think he was brought here to be a plan B - something different especially against teams playing ten men behind the ball - unfortunately he often cuts back inside or takes on a wildly optimistic shot. Be interesting to see if things change or he is moved on. Pep will never ever want unhappy players in the clubhouse. It's up to him.
