Riyad Mahrez has been spotted on crutches and wearing a protective boot after picking up an injury on Manchester City's pre-season tour.

The squad arrived back at Manchester Airport today ahead of the new season and City's latest recruit was seen walking with crutches.

Mahrez went down clutching his ankle after a tangle with Bayern defender Chris Richards early on, and had to be substituted in the 27th minute.

And City now face an anxious wait to see if he will be fit to start the first Premier League game of the season against Arsenal in two weeks.

Pep Guardiola admitted after the Bayern game he did not know the details of the injury but is concerned for the beginning of the season.

Doesnt mean much he will probably get it checked tomorrow, but as they were flying back he would have been put in a boot as a precaution in case it was something that could be aggravated.

He played on for a while and then sat down on the pitch for him to be looked at...walked off. Hopefully this is just precaution. City watch just posted his injury history or should I say "lack of"....Hopefully he will be rested for Chelsea but ready for the start of the season.

Probably out for about a 3 weeks. He’s got his move, I didn’t think we needed him after his petulance and throwing his toys out the pram at Leicester.
I really hope he turns it around. If he starts thinking he’s the next coming, he might be in for a shock.
