Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

I'm not expecting getting 2 goals today to mean he goes from how he was vs. Newcastle or Lyon to suddenly clicking into place and running away with things.

The game had broken up quite a bit, Cardiff were knackered, and his second goal especially was a bit of a gift. It should mean his confidence is boosted though and he keeps working at what Pep wants, which can only help him on his way.

His first goal was a really good sign he is adapting i think, reading our patterns of play better and getting into position for the tap-in. It was once Sterling started scoring those goals that he really took off, hopefully will be the same with Mahrez.

No I'm happy, I just think it's unrealistic to expect this performance to mean he's gone from looking awkward to being perfectly at home starting for us in the space of a week. I expect there'll still be another couple of months of ups and downs, like there was with Bernardo and Sané, until he's really grasped everything.

Like I said it'll be great for his confidence and will help him on his way.
