Riyad Mahrez - 2018/2019 performances

I could have said that although Mahrez was successful in winning the league in a one dimensional team, in a season when other perennial contenders such as City, United, Chelsea and Tottenham Abstained from trying to win the league, that Mahrez is, in know uncertain terms, Overrated.

That would have been unbalanced and a tad (as he didn’t necessarily choose to come to City, he was more given a gold lined opportunity which nobody would ever turn down) unfair.

Ultimately, I think Mahrez has come to a club that I don’t think he’ll ever be a World Class player at.

My main point, is that if we’re going to buy-in players who are proven and experienced, then they should be ready to go. We shouldn’t be waiting one or two seasons to see the best from them.

By the way, this is not a dig at Mahrez: Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson have both given the same quote when they said that only 1 out of 3 potential signings made are successful. Look at some of the dodgy defenders Arsenal have had and goalkeepers or midfielders at United (remember the World Class Eric DJemba-DJemba?).

What the fuck are you on about mate? You’re writing that like Mahrez has been offloaded after a terrible stint at City. He’s 4 months into a season, and he hasn’t been bad at all.

No, but I wasn't the one asking the question

No just sticking your four pennyworth in and trying to be a smartarse .

Obviously I am not really giving too much credence to your opinion of a player who has only been here for a short period of time and who has not yet had a chance to fully adapt to Pep's ideas and thoughts on how to get the best out of him.

Genuine Question
How would you compare his first 4 months to that of say:

Sterling
Sane
Merlin
Zaba
Vinnie
Bernardo
Hart
etc
etc
None of those players came off the shelf, they were all in a position where there potential was still to be proven.

Mahrez has arrived with a reputation as being some well established, seasoned player.

If he’s that good, then why are so many people questioning him in the way they are?

Your post actually hits the nail on the head. These players had or will have long careers with club. What about the ones you didn’t mention. Jo? Roque Santa Cruz?

If we signed someone like Gareth Bale, do you think he’d need time to “settle in”?

None of them have had a demanding intense very particular coach like pep before,it took some our senior players a whole season to adjust, you are clearly a foxes fan and you are looking pretty silly

Of course he would. Are you being deliberately naive or do you really believe what you are typing

I understand what your saying mate, but surely when any player moves no-one really knows how they will settle and fit into the new playing style, Bale could easily need time, even Messi could, Rodney Marsh is a great example of this, great player but never really fit at City, and dare I mention Sanchez ? Brilliant player (and those who think he isnt ask why Pep really really wanted him) but cant get in the team.
On top of that Mahrez has a difficult job, he plays in the same position as Raheem and Sane, 2 world class players.
