don't particularly want someone with a poor attitude who doesn't go back to work, having disruptive influences who will pull in a different direction at the slightest hint of a difference of opinion is not what we need.

What about a radical solution. Players and managers only sign for one year at a time. Would make an interesting transfer period in the Summer. No transfer valuations at all to pay, but wages would be massive unless controlled in some way. You would also need parity throughout Europe.

Can understand the owners fuming but surely they would overcome their displeasure to make a financial deal, or are they not that professional ?
A Leicester fan on Xfer day was saying they'd not deal with West Ham as Brady had disrespected the owners in whatever paper she writes for and instead rather than selling for cash to West Ham did a loan deal to Newcastle.

We may find they'd rather sell to the rags for £40m than take our dirty money if that's the case.

If they hold us responsible for Mahrez going on strike I think it is possible that they will refuse to deal with us. As far as I am aware though, they have had a decent relationship with us recently and I like to think that we won't have encouraged him to go on strike.

If you consider who Mahrez’s agent is then you don’t have to look too far to understand who might have encouraged him to go awol.

I think a deal will be done, but they will make him sweat and perhaps force him down a route where he was to pay some of his own fee. Didn't Countinho do something similar with Liverpool to get the deal done? Just a gut feeling.

Does make me laugh, if the lad was desperate to win things and wanted to move so badly, I bet it never crossed his mind to perhaps not ask for a huge wage increase from your guys, or even take a wage decrease on his current £100k a week to make it happen.

I don't think they'd hold you responsible unless they thought there was collusion between you and Mahrez's side in advance in an attempt to force us to do something we didn't want to.

It's in everybody's interest to do a deal this weekend contingent on injury. Then he can sign day one of the window, he can play for Leicester and try to get them into Europe and Leicester can start looking for a replacement knowing the money they have accepted.

So there has to be a real chance of an agreement reached where City offer a decent sum (£65 million inc add ons) provided there is no auction with other clubs in the Summer at which point they should make clear they will walk and not join in the auction.

I suggested they do this hours after the window closed and this weekend is the ideal opportunity.

Getting this matter resolved now with a firm agreement that can be legal from day one of the window suits everybody. It just makes sense given the fortune of being in the same place this weekend.

It will still come down to money as I will be staggered if City go any further than making him their record signing - which might well be the psychological tipping point for both clubs for different reasons.

City need to not bid so high it will impact all future deals. Leicester need to feel their player was valued enough by City to make him their record transfer.

They do not seem so far apart as for that not to be a possible resolution.

Exactly my point, both owners and players lose sight of objectives where money is concerned and they simply chase money sometimes at the cost of the deal.
