Riyad Mahrez

Make them wait, the ball is in our court, we know he wants to leave and we know they wont want to start the season with an even more unhappy Mahrez. Unless someone else is going pay over the odds like that they'll just take what we've already told them is our limit. There has to be a reason we've set one so early, either FFP or other important transfers down the line coming into play.

I'll have no complaints even if that means we have to stick with what we have come August until a better target is available that suits us(price, age, talent etc all weighed up). It's actually refreshing to see us not being pushed around for once.
This is also a position where, as you point out, it is more possible to find decent alternatives for 40-50mn and we are reasonably well stocked with players and not desperate.

Jorginho, I woukd be more concerned.

Mahrez, good player , wants to play for us, but if Leicester try to squeeze us good place to start showing clubs we are not mugs

Hi again, Leicester fans take on it.

As I posted previously in today’s inflated market he is worth close to £100m, have a look around for another player who has achieved what he has and is for sale at £75m inclusive of £15m Roberts?

We owe him nothing. He is paid £100k pw which by anyone’s standards is hardly Jim Royle, the argument that we are making a huge profit as we only paid £0.4m doesn’t hold water - he will go for what another club is willing to pay or he stays. If he stays we are going to need a new room built to house all his toys when he throws them out of the pram.

We don’t need the money and don’t want to sell so it’s not a case of us taking the piss out of Man City because you are rich.

Money has almost become irrelevant to most prem clubs - we have already spent £50m and there’s talk of two more deals still in the pipeline at another £50m.

If Liverpool enter the fray then it is more likely our valuation would be met.

His agent is a bit of a knob as well, which doesn’t help, I’m sure.

I can see this saga rumbling on unfortunately.
You are spot on. I said this yesterday to someone who wondered where Leicester's money for Maddison and co was coming from.
The truth is any Prem side can afford to spend £100m with the increase in revenues, especially one that won the title in the last couple of years!
LCFC are chancing their arm by asking for more . The truth is I think we may move on. Then you might have an issue because promises MAY have been broken.

The going rate for a £100M player is 300K/week though. We'll pay 50 or 60 tops or walk away and you'll have a problem with him and his agent.
You can't have it both ways.

Good points - always like to hear well constructed comments from opponents point of view.

Re the players wages - it is also fair to say that with some ( certainly not all ) players it is not all about the money as they are all ‘comfortable’.....so some want to either play for Pep or believe they have a better chance of winning medals by joining City at present.

I feel Mahrez want to move not because of just money

I’m certain of it. Many, many players want to play for Pep, because he helps them to get to the top of their own game. Also, City are in the CL, and are going to be for the foreseeable future. No disrespect to Leicester City (or Camberwell Fox) but Mahrez is just ambitious and wants to move to a bigger club. That’s just the way it is. And by the way, quite right — LCFC owe nothing to Mahrez, and by the same token, he owes them nothing.
I think we should walk away from this one if the price is too high. I always saw Mahrez as a luxury recruitment, although I’d love see him in sky blue. Jorginho is much the more important recruitment this summer.

I do agree that his move isn’t money based. He does want to better himself and win more silver wear.

There are thankfully very few Leicester fans who wouldn’t see that you have a better chance of achieving that than we do.

I agree on the £300k p.w and hadn’t really thought of that to be honest.

I hope for all concerned that a deal can be done as the deal falling through I feel will result in a major Mahrez meltdown.

The only other winner from this saga is airport lounges. Mahrez frequents then with regularity when there’s a sniff of a transfer...

I'm with you on this one mate.....would love to see Mahrez in the team next season but Jorginho was always going to be the bigger need out of our two main targets. A few weeks ago a few names/rumours started coming out as options(Seri etc) to Jorginho when talks werent going well and I'm surprised we havent started to do the same with this one. In my opinion, Leicester dont need to sell and as shown in Jan, are not concerned with keeping an unhappy player, so I'm hoping if nothing happens over the next couple of weeks (before pre-season training), that we move on to option B or C...I trust Pep to turn someone like Bailey into another Sane and at half the cost, so really dont think Mahrez is the cant miss, only option that could help us....For me it isnt about money, if Mahrez is our target, I'd just pay it (not my money) but its about the possibility of chasing Mahrez for yet another transfer window with no guarantee we even sign him.

I can't see Leicester forcing mahrez to stay when they have c. £70m bid on the table. Imagine the consequences if the deal falls through.

If LFc want to pay £70m plus, then let them. I doubt anyone will.

No MAY about it.
He'd have stayed on strike till the end if the season if Leicester hadn't agreed a deal with him.
