Riyad Mahrez

What good is 30m to us though? It'll take three times that amount to replace what Mahrez brings.

Consistently in the top 2 or 3 for goals and assists every season and is perfectly suited to our current system.

He may be 32 but his game relies on technique not pace so he could easily have 3 years left in him at this level.

I think we'd be better off keeping him to be honest.
Money goes towards a young up and coming with potential.

If Mahrez asks to leave City will grant it and 30m for a player we paid 60m for 5 years ago and going on 33 is good business.

I'm not saying sell him I like Mahrez but it's a good offer.

The club know what they're doing.

So no mahrez replacement at all if he leaves?

Replacing gundogan and mahrez with JUST kovacic after having an already extremely stretched midfield last season, with KDB's injury. Absolute recipe for disaster.

I wonder what, if any, role Perrone will play this season. This is not a weak squad:

Carson
Ortega
Ederson

Walker
Lewis
Stones
Dias
Akanji
Gvardiol
Ake
Gomez

Rodri
Phillips
De Bruyne
Bernardo
Kovacic
Perrone

Grealish
Foden
Haaland
Alvarez
McAtee
Bobb

I think Palmer gets a loan, Laporte, Steffen and Cancelo get sold, and there are a few more academy departures.

Ye I think that's bollocks.

Although it's very quiet regarding City transfer news other than Gvardiol.

He will be unhappy if we stop him going to Saudi Arabia to earn life changing money for his entire family.
I doubt we would stop him if he wants to go and they meet our valuation but we don't know if he wants to go.

If that's true, Bernardo as the Gundogan replacement, we will be relying yet again on Kev to produce for Haaland. Would've thought foden would go in there as he's a more creative player than Bernardo. Which would lessen the reliance on KDB. KDB is the most crucial player in our team, he creates for Haaland. Can see his runs in behind etc , so could Gundo.

We dont have a Gundo or David Silva to lessen the need for KDB to be that only creative player in midfield. Unless Pep turns Kovacic into it.

That's the major worry when Kev isn't there we lack creativity. Kev assisted the most to Haaland last season, when Kev was off his game or not playing Gundo was there to provide creativity and the final ball, Bernardo is an amazing player but does he have the passing and final ball as a Gundo or Kev. That's a problem, especially with Kev not being fit for the start of the season.

we are defo one AM short imo mate and if Mahrez goes we need a winger as well?

Alvarez and foden already had minutes of their own last season. You're not getting away with making a thin squad thinner. We're playing more competitions next season and will play even more minutes. You're gonna run these players to the ground.
and they are gonna want more, same with mcatee, bobb etc.

Those more competitions are 4 games max. Pep just needs to trust those on the fringe. (if he doesnt bin them asap, but that isn't happening)

Would note that Grealish was creative as well but I get your point. We do have McAtee, Alvarez and Bobb as well, but yep could do with another.

Foden staying fit as well, only started 3 CL games last year and 2 of them were sevilla in the group.

Plus KDB is likely to miss the start of the season. We really really need to add more creativity.

If we lose Gundogan and Mahrez age replace them with Kovacic and McAtee, that’s a lot of goals and assists and more importantly (for Pep) pausa gone. I hope the club have something up their sleeve…

Foden will step up next season big time.. centrally, creatively. maybe they feel the youngsters can deputise for Marhez etc.. in a bit of trouble if Bernie goes though, would be money to replace him then though.

Despite his age £30m isn't enough, has to be £45m+ to even be considered in my opinion.

It's not a good market for wingers and the ones that are decent aren't cheap.

That's assuming we even want to lose him, I already think we're a bit short out wide and that's before losing him.

There has to be a point where we back some of these lads coming out of the academy. Foden is a senior player now, ready to take on the creative burden. McAtee, Palmer and contributions from the EDS talents could mean we unearth our own gems. With the options on the market pretty light it's the perfect opportunity

I think a fee in the region of 30m would be fair and totally acceptable. Most people will be happy enough if he stays but won't cry if he goes. We have plenty of time to find a replacement if one should be required. People just need to chill and let the experts get on with their job. A job they seem to be very good at.

It only works if those players are ready mentally and physically to take those roles on. There’s no doubting their ability but it’s the whole package that’s required before making any kind of impact in the starting 11 week in week out.
Bearing in mind we’ve just come off the back of a treble winning season I think we can give those who make the decisions a bit of slack.

I'd argue that Mahrez has shown on a few occasions his mentality could be better, not sure the younger players, with points to prove, would be much different.

No doubting, Mahrez is going to be very difficult to replace and I think we under rate him at times, but we do need to freshen up. Why not from within?
