I don't think we will ever be Barca/Real/Rags, but I don't particularly care about that. City can win in the next ten years as many as three or four premier league titles and a couple of champions leagues - I actually think that's realistic. I just want us to win things and be respected for winning things. Fuck being some kind of self-styled 'super-club' for those in 'new football markets' who don't know much about the game, to wank over and buy the lampshade and quilt combo - who gives a fuck about that? I know I don't give much of a fuck...
HAHAH, well put!!! No i don't think geography has anything to do with it and I didn't say it did. Unfortunately for us though we will always be thought of them next door when someone says 'Manchester', at least for the time being. Remember when Michael Hughes went to Strasbourg? Well I remember a rumour at the time that Strasbourg fans were exstatic at the prospect of M.Hughes signing from 'Manchester'. Needless to say the rumour went on that they were slightly pissed off that it wasn't Mark Hughes from Manchester United! My point being that we will always come second to them whenever football and our city is mentioned, for the time being at least. And my point about 'super clubs' was that players will always choose Barca over us for that reason, because there is currently much more prestige and self-pride to go and play for Barca than there is to play for us, and as long as they continue to win things it will always be the case, whether we win what you think we can win or not.

Didsbury Dave said:I agree with that, John. I wouldn't be surprised if Hughes has been letting it be known he's available for a while. Barca could be the first takers.
I wouldn't be surprised if they've both wanted a buyer to come forward, to be honest.
I've got no basis for that apart from gut feel.

The reality is that Barca, while currently being the worlds best club, only started their current run of success in the very early 90's. Im not sure they even won the CL before then but i may be wrong on that one. Real Madird were always the No1 club pre then.
We are in a similar positition to Chelsea 7 or 8 years ago. They have no where near the stature of Barca.
Look at the list as long as your arm of truly great footalling icons that have turned out for Barca over the years. Then there is the polical aspect and what it stands for in Catalunya and the rest of spain, the role it played in the Franco reign etc. The iconic Nou Camp stadium.
It would take 50 years of sustained success, controversy, style of football, breed of footballer etc to get to near them. They are more than a football club.
