I'm interested to see if City comment on this story. When we have had similar stories (ie high profile transfers) they have been quick to come out and quash them.

I don't think they need to comment, or can comment seeing as the window is some 3 months off. They can't come out and confirm it, as it means Robbie faces a backlash, (possibly), from now till 1/1. Likewise they can't really deny it as if they then do sell him they'll look like liars. Robinho might be able to deny it, but the liklihood is we'll hear nothing until 1/1 onwards.

Yeah that is true.... Will be interesting to see what Hughes comments are after he is directly asked the question. Will his reply be on the lines of... he is an important part of the squad etc or will he say he is definitley not going anywhere in January.

good to see some good debate on here and not the usual "FFS Robi is City through and through, delete this thread" etc.

I've been posting since before last January's transfer window that I believe Hughes would let Robinho go and Robinho would take a move. the problem for me has always been finding someone who would pay the money. Now it seems we have someone.

I don't think it's anything to do with us needing money, or his mates leaving, or even our ambition.

I think that hughes can see that he doesn't suit the Premier League. He needs time on the ball to make things happen. That's why he only played well for us when we were ripping teams apart and they were throwing men forward. Not when we were 1-0 down and up against it. In those games he loses possession too much and puts us on the back foot.

I think he will show his undoubted class at Barca. In a slower league he will play as well as he does for Brazil. I think there are very few players in the world who would not want to go there. I don't think City will stand in his way.

Overall, I don't think this move is a disaster for City and it's certainly a good one for Robinho. I think we'll replace him. And I'd love it if Ribery was that replacement.

A great post. If City can get Yaya Toure and 10 million for Robinho and then bring in Ribery then it would be a great bit of work. There is no chance of City getting Iniesta or Xavi.

THIS!!!!

Thirded. Hughes did not sign Robinho and if you gave him £500m to build a team from scratch he would not even make Hughes's long list nevermind the shortlist. We can argue amongst ourselves until the cows come home about his role in the team but the bottom line is Hughes had him forced on him so it was never going to work long-term. Also, why is it so inconceivable that Robi wants out? It's Barca for fucks sake!

What does annoy me though is some people thinking that we will struggle without him. Why? We haven't this season and certainly didn't when he was out last season. We'll cope and Ribery would be ideal. He's got the skill and the work rate which makes him perfect for the Premier League and like Dave says, the money's a drop in the ocean to us.

Along the lines of... Robbie is a quality player.. quality players will always be linked with other big clubs as we are.

I don't get the YAYA toure posts. Where is he going to fit in, and at who'sd expense?

He wouldn't get back into the team on current form. He won't sit on our bench. Barca are the only team that would buy him for the amount we paid.

Love the guy, but he is 90% on his way I would guess.

We couldn't fit Messi in but I wouldn't say no.

I'm a little split on this as well, a top quality player and scored a lot of league goals last season, the 1st city player to do so since Goater, but something still doesn't seem right about the guy. I feel he needs to be played behind the front two to get the full benefit but what he gives you going forward you lose in defensive player and you cant afford to lose the ball in the middle of the park. We need to see more of how he fits into this years side before we make any rash decisions on the lad!

Id like to see Petrov more involved purely because he gives our attack more thrust. When play slows down in the prem, the opposition midfield and defence usually mass behind the ball. If a player is going to slow play down we need him to be an Ali B type of player who can thread the ball through the eye of a needle rather than a Robbie who stops, then tries sprinting at them again.
