I`m hung up on the potential resale value, because (and this shouldn`t be rocket science) the more money we can get for players that leave the more money is in the kitty for new players.

Obviously players that have been great servant`s to the club, been here a long time and are coming to the near end of their careers go on a free, e.g. Vinny, Zabba, Sergio, David etc,

I don`t think we can be pissing off potentially £150,000,000 on Harry Kane plus his wages without the slightest chance of getting any of it back to buy his replacement.

Exactly it does not matter how rich your are, in fact the richer, the more careful you should be with your money.

The recent signings of Barcelona and The Trafford Red Socks simply illustrate how the rich can become poor with stupid, expensive signings.

WE also have history, we were a wealthy, well run club before P.J.Swales became chairman, we ended up skint and in the 3rd division, again, down to stupid, expensive signings.

Fair point everyone's different I suppose, still don't understand being worried about money though when we have well paid people doing that for us.

Resale value only matters where that is the business model (e.g Dortmund). The business model for City is to win trophies and take advantage of the commercial advantages that provides.

So buying Kane for £150M will be determined by how much he will help towards those goals and what are the extra sponsorship/image right deals etc that can be negotiated by his presence in the squad. If Kane helps us win the Premier League and Champions League, he will have paid for himself and whoever comes in to replace him. So, for the accountants that will be the important issue because they know there will be a limited resale value. I suspect different considerations will be involved in acquiring younger players.

Having said that, I also struggle to see how he is worth that amount of money - and can he really help the club generate that sort of money? Whereas I could see how the Messi deal (had it happened) might have been financed through commercial revenues.
