So what mate we are moving in the right direction, get behind the manager instead of pulling shit stats up! Yes he has a poor record in the champions league but he is learning and so are we. Get behind the manager

Given that this thread is specifically about the Champions' League, is there even a shred of evidence that we are moving in the right direction?

Well if we had last year’s group again I think we would of pissed it, it’s hard to tell because we are in the group of death and probably the hardest group ever in champions league

How can we play Villareal in the Champions League if they got relegated last season?

Successful teams defend leads by KEEPING the ball when they have it. We turn over possession in an embarrassingly simple fashion with alarming frequency. Keeping the ball requires a level of technical ability that many of our players simply don't have (Lescott, Milner, Barry, Richards to name four). Therefore running down the clock, taking the sting out of the opposition, sapping their belief that they can comeback from behind are options that we don't currently have. This and the ability to exploit opportunities with speed on the break are the two main differences between us and the successful teams in Europe. We have to address these weaknesses when we identify future transfer targets.

I said if we had last season’s group next year we would walk it!! Really what is the point in that reply? You seem to do it a lot and frankly there is just no need

First appearance: 2003/2004 Lazio Roma

ELIMINATED in the first round:

1. Chelsea FC 13 6 4 1 1 9 3 +6
2. AC Sparta Praag 8 6 2 2 2 5 +5
3. Beşiktaş JK 7 6 2 1 3 5 7 -2
4. Lazio Roma 5 6 1 2 3 6 10 -4

2004/2005

Reached the quarter finals but lost to AC Milan 5 0 on aggregate

2005/2006

Reached the quarter finals again but lost to Villareal

2006/2007

Eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Valencia

2007/2008

Eliminated in the 1/8 finals by Liverpool

He gets sacked because of these results and Mourinho becomes the new coach and wins the Champions league in 2009/2010 with pretty much the same squad. I think he even had Ibrahimovic in his squad whereas Mourinho had Etoo.

Those stats are ugly...

That performance by Inter was one of the poorest displays I have ever seen in the CL. They were shocking that night

What on earth have you seen in the first three matches this season to suggest we would now piss a group with Bayern and Napoli? I can cope with not qualifying, it's a seriously tough group, but imo there is little doubt we have gone backwards this year in the CL and we haven't even made a fist of it so far.

We went to up in Madrid for fuck sake, we must defend far better in the champions league. If you don’t think we are moving in the right direction fine no problem that’s your opinion.

To be fair mate with that group we are in we was always fucked from day one

Yes City were in front against Madrid but if you look from a neutral perspective that was a miracle. Madrid should have scored 6 that night
