What did people think of his contribution today?

In the long run it will definitely help him having more combative players around him so he has the freedom to roam and do serious damage, but as a whole he wasn't particularly involved much. I think this is the Robi we are going to see for as long as he is with us. When games are going our way he will turn on the style, and when games are tough he will lie dormant whilst the rest graft to give him the space and the ball to work his magic. Is Hughes going to be prepared to make an exception with Robi in terms of his overall contribution to the team across 90 minutes?

Was talking about this in the pub,
They guy can do fuck all for 89 mins and 45 secs then magic you something out of nothing,
so is he ditchable or worthy of keeping on, a frustrating dilemma.

Robinho didnt have the best game today however it is vital he plays as the opposition tend to move two players onto him giving more space to the rest of the team

I wouldn't advocate ditching him for a second because he has ability like no-one else in our squad, and he is a match winner in terms of being capable of individual brilliance at any time. But I wasn't surprised or bothered when he went off for Tevez because the game demanded a more robust approach.

All the pundits and so called experts say you can't have a luxury player who doesn't track back and put a shift in..but I reckon you can when that player's got the skills that Robhino's got.

If he loses the ball I don't want to see him deep in out half battling for possession, I want him " goal hanging", waiting for Barry, SWP, Ireland, Petrov, De Jong etc, to set him free with a pass into space, then let him do his thing.

Robbie is an exceptional player but the fact is he goes in and out of games. I love the connection he has with Ireland on the pitch, at times they are on a different wavelength from all the other players. Today when the rain started to come down Hughesy sensed that we needed all the players to really graft and see the win out, thats why I think he took him off.

so we are to select teams on the basis of the weather forecast now? :-]

Ha ha that made me chuckle a little!

I understand the point, the circumstances (weather and filthy opposition) demanded a tough approach so Hughes got it spot on by making the changes when he did.

The game was safe in the second half. Robi I thought looked a bit tired out there so no wonder he went off for Tevez. It is still all about getting the players to peak fitness so Tevez needs some gametime and get him on. I think we may see a lot of this happening between the 2 during the season.
