robin van persie (continued)

It's a short term solution, and uncharacteristic of United, but it goes to show just how much us winning the league last season hurt them. Ferguson is desperate to get the title back before he can retire.

They're going to be unquestionaby stronger this season with van Persie, Kagawa and Vidic back. Given that we only won the league last season on goal difference, I imagine it will be extremely close again this year. Not that I'm worried - I relish the challenge.

You shouldn't underestimate the importance of having a fully fit, committed Tevez back, and if Balotelli can reproduce his form from the Euros then we have a formidable array of options up front.

Let battle commence.

My thoughts exactly, bring it on.

I will feel a tad better though if the RvP signing spurs us on into opening the chequebook for a couple of top notch acquisitions....

Im quite sure it will.

Like most (I think) I didn't want RVP. No denying however that they have bought quality but it is at a heavy price. They just got a little closer to us but lets not forget we are going to see more than 4 Goals from Tevez.

I put these figures up the other day, may make you feel a bit more confident !!! :)

2010-2011 season ....vidic appearances 35 ..... rags won 5 games away from home - For 29 against 25

2011-2012 season...vidic 6 appearances.... rags won 13 games away from home - For 37 against 14

Where did they miss Vidic ....other than Everton :)

We didn't need him but I didn't want him to go to them seems to be the views of most blue's, which I agree with.

One thing people need to realise is we can't just buy players to stop others getting them. No doubt Van Persie's a quality player and he'll turn out to be a good signing for them in the short-term. But looking at this deal ignoring how important he may be to either team or whatever, they've paid £24million pounds and £220k a week for a player who is 29 and was in the last year of his contract. They've been ripped off and people wouldn't be happy on here if we had agreed that fee with them - well I know I wouldn't be anyway.

We paid 27 million for Dzeko who is only 2.5 years younger than RVP. If Van Persie scores 30 goals a season for the 4 years of his contract then it would be considered a bargain. I don't think he is gonna morph into steptoe as soon as he turns 30. Bergkamp played until he was 37. This is game on.

How many goals do you think he'll get? I'm guessing 15-26 goals as he won't be the only person that the midfield will be looking to assist.

Apparently Arsenal could be getting Chicharito in a separate deal. One step forward, two steps back all the time for Arsenal.

Didn't say it was a shit signing as such. Just that I feel that they've been ripped off. We paid £27million for Dzeko when he was what? 26? and he had a few years on his contract left - not 1.
